Which Ringmaster to Build

The last thing I need to consider right now is building yet another airplane (5 now under construction), but......  The only Ringmaster I have ever flown is a Baby Ringmaster, a very, very long time ago.  If I wanted to build one for profile stunt and regular PA perhaps (not interested in OTS), which one would you recommend - and why - and is it available as a kit or just plans.  I have several engines I could use; Max LA 40, Max 35S, Max 25FP, ST 46, ST51, and a Silver Fox 35 I think its called.

Hi Joe,

There are so many variations of Ringmasters now it is hard to keep track of them.  If you built the original Matt Kania S1 Ringmaster, I would recommend a Veco 19 BB engine which you did not list as having.  If you wanted to go bigger, you could build Pat Johnston's 576 Ringmaster and use the St. 46.  It all depends on what size Ringmaster you want to build.  The old Fox 35 was a favorite back in the day to put on a Ringmaster but there are many other and probably better choices.

Brodak sells the Ringmaster S1. Nice kit but prices have gone up. And a 20/25 FP or LA would be a good engine for it. My opinion is the other engines you mentioned are too much for the model.

If you lived close enough you could stop by and take a ready to fly S-1 Ringmaster with engine.  Then you wouldn't have to worry about building one.

I agree with Colin and Matt.  I have built 3 of the RM 576.  Great flying plane.  I used a OS LA.46 on them.

Being a Forigner the RINGMASTER is a Forign Cult Thing !  ( however you chose to spell it )
The closest thing WE had to that , is a PEACEMAKER , whicheveyonehadbuilt a dozen off ,
myself.

BUT . To make a short story long , a LITE WEIGHT Peacemaker ( the 21st Century Peacemaker - in fact ! )
would get one practical for the callous youth of today !

In the U.K. and Aus. Classic ( vintage ? ) COMBAT - the OUTLINE of the flying wing must be adheared yo . TO .
AS the Peacemaker ( Flite Steak ) has a modern Combat Wing outline - your there then . A 12 ounce Peacemaker
that wont desintegate upon arrival .

you can see that with only a 3/16 sq. t.e. and three bays aside , it'd be a bit quicker to build.



At 18.5 oz. these are a bit of a dog, but work o.k. ploughing .

at 16.6 oz. they fly.

at 14.5 oz. they fly quite well . Witha OS 20 on 60 ft. of .012 . maybe .

at 12.5 oz. they fly well , untill theygetta BUMP . then you have several pieces of peacemaker .

UNLESS you doa modern F2D type wingone .
The same theory would apply to the Wingmaster 21th Centurion . !

Somewhat like this or anyofftheothers . MAYBE ? ?    a pom. built a 140 % Peacemaker . I was gunna copyit . As I had a ruler I realised 150% gotcher a 48 inch square bit + 4 inch tips . as 54's much bigger than 36
I thouyght Id better do that . AGAIN . Doing one like a Cobat Wing'd be way quicker'n LIGHTER . And WITH IT .

SO , tho make a long story short , do a wing like that covered in that stuff they use , on a RINGMASTER , MATE . Cor , Wouldit GO ! .

Id do it S1 ish  ( or the best wing that sizeish ( or bigger )  )  42 span . Multi Drilled for the big injuns . Mate . ( as ive never got this ' ring thing ' and havnt yet got to  builda far out Bi - Plane . ) Which'd be good . Like a Bi Slob .

And Id use I interplane struts with a slider or fore & aft drilled leadout guide . And a carrier hook .
Thought it was a Ringmaster MO1 at first . But Someone Else has been at it . TOO .

+1!   Not a profile though.  Will fly Classic.  Only thing is the tank compartment is too small for enough fuel for a full pattern.  Move the bulkhead back for 4 ounces .  Built light it flies quite well.  It DOES have flaps.

I was keeping a list a while back. One of our club members was on a "build all of them" campaign--and then he discovered there were a lot more! Admittedly, not by the hand of Kania, or with authentic Sterling die-crunch, but plenty of spinoffs and "improvers."

You could build a Sig Twister, sheet the leading edge, extend the rear fuselage 2" and change the wing tips, canopy, rudder and stabilizer to make it look like a Ringmaster and have a better flying plane for your LA 40.

Yuh. One our club members Big Al, did something just like that and called it a Twistmaster. Luckily(?) he escaped his Ringmaster fetish when the tent at VSC smashed a whole row of fetishism. Now he's doing Flite Streaks, so I gotta make up a whole new list of official and sub-sub-sub-varients of Streakishism. The part that has me shakin' in my Boots is if I find out that Pat has been beaverin' away there too and has got 57 variations of them buggers....

Yuh got cher Flite Streak, yer Flite Streak Junior, yer Flite Streak Trainer, yer Doodle Streak and Yankee Doodle Streaks, yer fried shrimp, yer boiled shrimp. Ya got shrimp in red sauce, shrimp in white sauce.....
