Control Line in Orlando Florida?
« on: April 10, 2011, 07:18:44 AM »
I just found this forum and would like to know if there are any members still flying Control Line models in or around the Orlando Florida area?  Years ago, I was a member of a control line club and am thinking about getting back into the hobby.  Seems like everything now revolves around R/C.  R/C is OK, but it doesn't do it for me.  I love the look of the big stunt ships and the attachment you have with the model through the control handle.  If you have any information about control line flying in my area, please let me know.  Thanks!   :)

Phil,
Check our web site:  http://IRKS.org
While it shows as an RC club, we have (3) active CL circles, can have more if required as we have room for same. Ample room for sailplanes (700' launch circle area), helo's, park flyers, large RC models and CL to fly at the same time!   #^
Club field is located in Cocoa,FL, west of I95, North of 520.
From Orlando, take BeeLine to 520, or 50 to 520 and 520 to 524 then N. on Adamson Rd.
Non members require a member to sign them in at the Security Post, main gate.
Questions? drop me a PM.

Sure do miss the days(Late 60's early 70's) of flying in what use to be the employee parking lot of Sears, on the corner of Maguire and East Colonial dr. No lamp posts or parking curbs, just one big expanse of blacktop. We use to put up four circles at once when the whole gang was there. Not to mention two young guys(my age) flying combat over the grass field. I wonder what happened to some of them. One of the best was a local fireman named Ray Lu-air(spelling?) . He had a shark 45 and also a black Rabe mustang plus his worn but trusty white and gold nobler. Heard he did R/C for a while. Wouldn't mind hearing from him. Sorry for the Nostalgia trip guys !

Same time frame. We use to fly at our local school yard. Rob Gow,Ken Pasco, John Martin,Danny Nipalitano and my self would fly all day long. The cops use to watch us. We would start a engine and every kid in the neighborhood would swarm the place. Great times!

As far as I know none of these guys stuck with it.
