When your on the run, like in the movies, whats the best way to hide yourself ? To be disguised - Incognito ?
The standard issue is : Beard, Glasses, Hat - CHECK , CHECK, CHECK..
Im not convinced it helps..
Found this in a 1980 Aero modeller magazine - and it WASNT in the Stunt section..

Beware, this individual could still be on the run.... look out at your local field.
Edit for addition :
Lets not let this over-shadow the fact that PTG won a Bronze Medal in combat was the first time an American even came close to winning that event. Since becoming an official event in '76 only 3 Americans have place in the top 3, 2 others have won but never appeared in the top three again.
-
PTG ? ?
-
PTG ? ?
Fer sure! Looked just like that when I took him to Poland in 1980! :) :)
-
Except the beard isn't part of the disguise. He still sports it but it's a little less "bushy". Also, the color has changed somewhat.
-
That's the actual PTG. To fit in better with the stunt community, the Jive Combat Team is currently disguised as old men.
-
Hmm, not much of a disguise.
-
And your disguises are getting better every day. Day after day.
-
Is he impersonating one of the nicest guys I ever met?
Can you spot him in this?
-
Why has Phil hardly changed but Howard...
Hmm, maybe it's a Dorian Gray thing.
-
Phil not only is a great guy, he also looks like a great dancer.
Howard on the other hand... he was never that young looking!
-
This was meant to be lighthearted - to make people smile and remember this event is supposed to be fun with friends. I consider Phil to be just that, with no disrespect to him or the Jive combat team.
Just to clear up a few things :
The point of this wasnt to make fun of Phil, but to make a statement that even after 25 years its still possible to spot people.
Even if you are in disguise - HAT, Beard, Glasses, It doesnt hide your face.
Im not convinced it helps.
If the person IN the photo can see the ammusing side of it - surely others can also.
The forum in general is a great place to be - but recently its been gettign heated over Nats rules, BOM compliance, and hidden adgenda's. This was never the point of the Stunthanger forum... Its to share stories, knowledge, friendships and our love of all thing aeromodelling, in the grand scheme we are all a small family with people who have invested 20 - 40 years + of their life to this hobby.

Okay, well, this is just too good to pass up. The attached photos most certainly are to make fun of Phil! I'm sure he has enough "good" ones of me to do the same thing!
Seriously, were we really ever that young? Hey, Phil, you still look good!
One of the photos was taken at the Combat awards ceremony in Poland where Phil gets the very first F2D Medal in USA Team history. He placed third that year and did a great job. The other photo is of Phil and his Diplomat. Dig the long tail moment arm for the era! Phil was always ahead of the game trend-wise.

In that same article 1980 Aeromodeller - There was a photo of 3 Stunt fliers all together;
Billy Werwage, Les McDonald and a 3rd Unidentifiable flier who was very thin with hair everywhere - Head and Lip.

It is amazing how we change thru the years. At least some of us. I used to fly with Howard at Swope Park when they would come out. First met Phil after being woke up at 3 in the morning at a Lake Charles NATS when they still dorms to stay in.
Now a little story of when I showed up at VSC one year clean shaven. The only year I done that as I had a skin rash that had to be cured. Was talking to Rusty Brown and a couple of others. Bobby Hunt was one and kept looking at me. Rusty seen the look on Bobby's face and asked him if there was a problem. He had never seen me without a beard and didn't remember me from the Lake Charles NATS with just a mustache. Rusty knew me from when I was just a kid. H^^
By the way I recognize most of the faces, but the names have eluded me. jeh

On picture #13. I can't believe that anyone at any time anywhere wore pants llike that anywhere but on a golf course. I always knew that golfers had no taste in clothes back then, but on a flying field boy, that's bad.

OK, you guys have had your fun…….Now it’s my turn.
PJ, if that Pitbull gets a whiff of Muncie air and turns on you, I will be there to document the event.
I have known Howard since ’68. He has been and remains a very good friend…HOWEVER…he did get my dog drunk one New Years Eve. I managed to repay him by signing up his cat to receive regular visits from door to door sales people. Because of him I have inside knowledge of the real Bazarro World.
Bob Hunt, it seems our world might be very different were it not for you…LET US COUNT THE WAYS!
WD, your old photos speak volumes……..if only they could tell ‘the rest of the story’ What a wild ride it was!
Doc, I’m still trying to figure out which came first, you or the Wright Brothers……seems like a tie!
