Playboy Kits
« on: October 24, 2006, 02:20:08 PM »
Due to the large number of requests for the Playboy kits I am starting production on a second run this week. I will be producing the same quantity as last time and there is still space to get on the list.

I recommend using from a 35 to a 46 for the Playboy. I used a Thunder Tiger 36 in the one pictured and a Magnum in the second one I am building. My use of these was slightly influenced by the fact that I could get them inside the cowl. The total height is slightly shorted than several other engines I considered.

Bill,
Have you set a deadline for yourself on completion time? My wife was asking if they were going to be delivered for Christmas......Just curious, I know your situation.

Getting them done that quick may be hard to do with the time in the shop I have but I am trying.
I will make updates

Hello Bill,

What are some of the specs on the Playboy?  Wing span and square inches?

Also, what's the price with shipping?

Thanks,

Joe

Joe,
The length of the Playboy is 43 inches including the needle nose spinner I used. The wingspan is 54 inches and the square inches is 560 approximately. I recommend a 35 to 46 for power. I used a thunder Tiger 36 in one of mine and a Magnum 36 in the other.
The cost of the kit is $ 160.00 plus $ 15.00 for shipping in the USA.

Thanks, Bill, for the info on the specs and cost of the Playboy.

Great looking plane! I'll drop a bunch of hints to my wife and offspring about a early Christmas present.

Best regards,

Joe

Ty

Weight 42.3 ounces according to my scales.

Due to my condition I have not flown it yet - or anything since April. I am thinking of using a wheelchair to fly but haven't tried it yet.

The main body color is called MIXTURE

Brodak Paints

3 parts cub yellow
2 parts insignia white
1 part sandal wood

The result by spraying is that it leaves the surface slightly tinted towards the sandal wood however ANY sanding and the yellow highlights pop out and it becomes a different color. After spraying the final color coat I did not sand or buff the finish. The clear brings out the yellow somewhat also.

The brown is a mixture of brown and insignia white. I have no idea what the mixture was  - I just added white to some brown until I liked it. I wanted a lighter color than the brown.

MY digital camera will not reproduce the exact colors of the plane. I have tried in several lighting conditions and this picture is the closest I have come to it.

My decals are slightly different than the kit. Mine have a brown main color with a black highlight or shadow. The kit decals have only black with no highlight so are a bit planer. They are the same font. I posted them on this forum so all can see what they are getting. The decals for that plane cost $ 24.00 so I could not justify putting them in the kit but I can supply them for anyone that wishes to pay the additional cost. They can be done in most basic colors with a shadow in contrast and with your AMA number. The colors are limited to what the vinyl guy has.
