Yearly fund raiser $1760.00 so far Long way to go! 12-14-07
« on: November 26, 2007, 04:58:20 PM »
As most know this site does not pay for itself. Some have donated time, some engines to be auctioned off and the proceeds donated to Stunt Hanger. I do not make any money on this site. I have nothing to sell. Its with your donations that make it work. I am starting the fund raiser a month early as we fell short of last years budget. I have 4 kits to giveaway yet no shipping money. Please make your donations via Paypal or send to
Robert Storick

St.Louis Mo. 63144.

We need at least $444.00 by years end to pay for the server. Thats before the giveaways!

Some people pay $50.00 for diner that lasts a hr. Think about it, this site lasts all year.

While in the chat room the other night we were talking about improvements ,upgrades and giveaways. I had giving a quick figure of an annual budget of $1900.00. I think this would do it on the small side. What really needs to take place is a budget of 2500.00. Let me give you a rundown.

Hosting costs are $444.00 per year
Kit give aways are about $125.00 per month =$1500 per year
Shipping is around $300.00 per year
A couple hundred dollars in new software per year.
Grand total is $2444.00

This is the best Forum on the planet so if you can donate please do, if not just share your experience with others in the up coming year. Lets work together to make 08 a bang up year.

For a secure donation see the main page or the donation button top right. If you don't see the donation button send paypal payment to sparkyfl@charter.net you are in the wrong place. This is NOT TAX DEDUCTIBLE!

As most will have noticed I have come up with a way to supplement donations by offering advertising space. Be sure to support the advertisers of the board as they support us.

The bigger we get the more it take to keep it going. Budget target is $2500.00 to start the year off. Please send them in now so we can do a good Christmas gift like we did last year. Last years gift was PA.40UL and Ares. This year will be better if funds are available.

Hi Robert,

Thank you again for providing us with this extremely useful CL forum! :-)

I am sorry to hear of your Mothers illness. My prayers go with you.

I am sending you another small donation. I know that "every little bit helps" but could you please give us an idea of what is the average donation? This would help us know what to give as our fair share?   $20, $50, $100? or$????

I'm sure you have thought of many ways to run your raffle but FWIW here is my take on the monthly drawings: ..... given the large shipping costs (and the trouble it must be for you?) is there a chance to just make arrangements with the supplier (RSM, etc.) for a gift cert. for X$ and let the winner pick his plane and handle the shipping arrangements? Or have the drawing every quarter? IMHO one big drawing each year would be more than enough.

These last two would fit nicely into the budget you seem to be working with now, and maybe in 2008 too? The once a year BIG drawing would allow you to always operate within your budget by using whatever $ were left over near the end of the year to buy the BIG annual drawing prize.

Your Forum is so beneficial to us all that it does not need any drawing to keep us happy! :-) But if you feel a drawing is needed, then one "Full set up" (plane, super eng/pipe etc.) drawing per year would be nice to look forward to, but any more than that does not seem to give us the "bang for the buck" that the expense costs you.

If your purpose for these drawings is to make your forum feel more like one very large National/International CL Club, that is a noble cause. But if that is the case then why don't you run it like a club drawing. For ex: for each $12 donated per year the member gets one drawing ticket per month in the drawing, $24= 2per mo etc. .... Or if you go with only one drawing per year, then $12 gets you one ticket for the ONE drawing per year for the big prize, $24 gets you 2 tickets, etc. Only people buying tickets get into the drawing. This way you would see exactly how many people are really here for the drawing and you would see if the interest covers the expense. This would also encourage more people to make donations, just like we do at our monthly club meeting drawings.

I would much rather see you not do any drawings but have an annual budget that covers your expenses and has at least $1,000 go to you to be used to cover some of your labor that we all benefit from. IMHO: I think most people would still continue to donate each year to keep this excellent CL forum going.

I realize that you have thought of all this from every angle, I just hate to see you work so hard for so little return. But I am VERY glad you do!  y1

I definitely patronize your Forum sponsors, and will continue to do so in the future. They are a very good group with quality CL products. :-)

Thanks again for your excellent forum. It has been a great help to my "Reentry" into CLPA :-)

Regards,  H^^

OK Sparky, what happened to the money I gave you? It has not been much over 2 years ago that I gave you a dollar.

Seriously Folks, Some can give more than others, but almost everybody can give something. Most of us subscribe to at least one magazine. Think of this as a little magazine that you get 365 issues a year (ONE BONUS ISSUE EVERY FOUR YEARS). You can instantly get a small article, written by a team of experts on any C/L subject that you want. A little bit of advertising of directly related items by the top of the line dealers. A little good clean humor, and it is environmentally friendly. No trees are used in producing this magazine.

Guys,
And gals too! We spend a lot of time and money on our C/L persuits. The Forums are an unbelievably rich source of information and advice. If we don't support them and they go away we have no one to blame but ourselves. If we will give what we can without hurting ourselves I am sure that the funds will be there to keep this forum going.

I'll get off of my soap box now,  Pat

Just sent my contribution!! I was looking at bottom of forum page, way down past classified, under "forum stats". It shows 1378 members ,if everyone gave just $2, Basically a cup of coffee you would exceed the amount needed for operating this forum. If everyone gives a little we all get a lot!!   John

Although I am new to this fourm, i must say that I enjoy it emensly... but I also must say... for a group of 1300 plus modelers, it shouldn't be any problem at all to meet the necessary budget.... however it seems the old adage  of....... 10% of the people do  100% of the work.. or donations in this case..I'm only guessing at the percentage but the adage always holds true....I belong to local clubs where i pay only $10.00 a year as a membership fee and dont get near as much interaction as I see here....am I to understand.. that 1300 modelers cant spare say.. $5.00 a year to help support this great site???????????   thats apiece guys... u spend more on a couple tanks of fuel.. and this is year round... My donation is in the mail via pay pal..

If everyone could sell one of those kits up there on the shelf. The ones you always say "I'll build it someday", but you know you never will.
Then donate proceeds, or part thereof, to SH Fund Raising.  y1

Here I am again

Some can donate a little some can donate a lot. If everyone donated a little no one would have to donate a lot. If everyone donated a lot, Sparky could retire and build airplanes all day long except when he is flying. LL~ LL~

I am afraid we have all gotten a little spoiled. We are used to getting everything off the internet for free, but nothing is really free. Some one has to pay for it. If you have a lot of deep pocked advertisers on your site they will pay for it and give you a pocket full of money to boot. Stunthanger doesn't have that kind of advertisers. I appreciate those who do put an ad on and I assume help Sparky a little.

I am on a fixed income so I can not donate a lot. I am sure that almost everyone here could donate as much as I do. If a few hundred did even that much Sparky would not have to worry about where the next months money was coming from. Sparky has donated countless hours of his labor. If you wonder how much that is worth take a motorcycle and have it worked on. Look at what they charge you for that labor per hour.

Off soap box

Disclaimer: I get nothing out of this except the enjoyment from the information and fellowship, which is really quite a lot.

Robert,

Just made a small donation. Hope you get to your goal. If you fall short post on the heading at the opening of the forum, I'm sure you can get a bit more from people if needed.

I have been posting here for a little over a year, mainly in the carrier section. It's great to have a forum that is very active and has many different points of view. It's one of the few CL forums that keeps my attention and provides me with lots of answers.

Thanks for your hard work helping all of us stay connected.

Sparky, just went to the online magazine and it looks like it is not going to be.  Don't if the funds for it are still there, but, if they are available, how about dropping the online magazine idea and feed the funds to the forum.  HAPPY NEW YEAR,  DOC Holliday

Hi Robert,

I 2nd Doc's idea.

Your forum is so well organized and managed that it is already closer to an "Interactive" magazine than it is to a typical internet forum. With your search features and multipule subject areas it is as good, or better, than all the other CL publications out there. It has a relatively high "signal to noise ratio", and with the many experts (in their fields) that post here there is a wealth of useful, and often entertaining, information available to beginners and experts alike.

Thanks again for all your (and the moderators) hard work on our behalf. You have shown an incredible amount of patience with us on controversial issues that we all know are near and dear to your heart. The fact that you have bent over backwards to allow the expression of views very different from your own has helped make this the excellent interactive magazine it is today.

Warm Regards, and Happy New Year,   H^^

Anybody know how this is going?  My renewal for the online mag was refunded.  I guess not enough interest.
