Xoar Props
« on: May 12, 2011, 05:20:52 PM »
These look like nicely made Beechwood propellers; anyone have first or second hand knowledge of their performance in stunt? I like the Master Airscrew Beechwood props, but I'm looking for an 11/5, and after not finding, I'm guessing MA doesn't make them.

Xoar prop is made by JXF in China and are the same as JXF. In my opinion these are better by FAR then Zinger, Top Flite or MAS. I have been using the JXF electric props in my 4S and 2S engines since 2009 and they are awesome. Good pitch distribution for stunt with less pitch at the tip.

Most people down here got hooked on the JXF e-prop and we hardly see any other wood prop been used down here.

I used to take a top flite power point and spend hours thinning them out. These electric props comes already with a thin blade and the hub is actually stronger then a regular Top Flite Power Point Prop. I feel I end up with a safer and stronger prop in the nose of my ships.

I love'em

Martin,  I see you are i Brazil.  Here in the good ole USA wewere told by the AMA that electric props can not be used on IC engines.  In fact one person I know was told not to bring his stuff to a contest if he was using the electric prop on his planes.   He told me he had several people flying the set up with no problems.   As thin as those blades are, how do you hand start them?  By the way ZOAR props do look good,  just haven't gotten any to play with. Doc,
My buddy Mark Scarborough gave me some of these props.  They are as good as are available.  The Beachwood is as tough as any normal wood used for stunt props.  No worries about starting an engine, at least the engines I use.  I just wouldn't use a chicken stick on any good wood prop.  The feel of the engine with real fingers is the best way to keep tuned in to the engine.  That being said, all bets are off for .15 diesels.  Nastiest engine I ever tried to start.

The Xoar electric props are actually about the same thickness as a revup or top flight after I get done carving on it, Not sure I am all THAT concerned about it. The only thing about the electric Xoar props is that the actual hub is a bit thinner than that of a glow hub. But the blade is almost exactly the same thickness as I target when I rework a standard prop.
My problem has been that I am so happy with the 12.25 x 3.73 apc, I have not wanted to go away from it. Now that the Gee Bee is no more, and I will be flying the Avenger as my primary ship, I will be doing much more prop experimenting.

Mark.  This is the first I heard about the demise of your Gee Bee.  Too bad.  That was a neat flyer, and also looked great in the air, even though the appearance suffered a little from being a profile.

Xoar makes props for electric and gas.  They are balanced when you recieve them.  The marked pitch is accurate as you can measure.  They are well finished.

They come in virtually all sizes that you would want as far as diameters/pitch is concerned, though they are in one inch increments.

The three blade props are reinforced with aluminum plates spliced laterally through the hub and pinned.  The electric 3-blade props appear to be reinforced with a hard plywood instead of the aluminum plate.  The electric blades are noticeably thinner to the point that I see no need to risk loosing a blade using an electric prop blade operatiing on a gas engine.

If you can find a distribuor in the states for the size props you are looking for, you will save significantly on S&H.  Don't ask how I know.

They have a wide variety of types and materials other than their wood props.  Certaily worth looking at and obtaining a selction in the sizes that you can use.

XOAR or JXF also makes the RSM props for Eric Rule. By all reports, they work great...if they're the size you need.  y1 Steve

Floyd,
I had a leadout fail internally, I appreciate the comments, it served me well and put up with a lot of abuse.

as to the props,

here is a source.
I too have heard that RSM props are made by the same people, though the RSM props certainly "LOOK" more like a traditional stunt prop

Regarding the RSM props...I got the info direct from the lips of Eric Rule, at VSC ('07 or '09?). He said that he took measurements of chord and pitch off of Rev-Up and TF paddle blades and averaged them, which explains why they don't look anything like any XOAR blades, or their Rev-Up and TF cousins. Those were the specs he gave to Xoar. Also, Eric said that the pitches are lower than the size stamped on the props. I have no idea why.  I've looked on the RSM website fairly recently for prop sizes, and only found 10" and 11", but I have at least one in 12" NIB. No idea why they are not listed on the RSM site.  H^^ Steve
