Every time I see the Veterans of Wars young and old, I can not express my gratitude. BW@ Although I am a Vet, I was saved by God to somehow not be in harms way. I found this by accident, with a little spare time to do some searching on the "cloud". If any of you have about 10-15 min, please watch this documentary that has some recorded history of an actual Spitfire pilot with actual footage and interviews of his experience. He sees footage of his own plane that he has never seen before.
You will enjoy his expressions!!!

I had seen this several times before but both times tears came to my eyes. What a generation those people were. Truly the Greatest Generation.

I have a copy of the pilot's manual for the Spitfire. That plane had some strange quirks. For instance, The Merlin engine had a normal carburetor with a float. Pilots were advised not to go inverted for less than 1 G for very long. The engine would stop. Also, if the gear would not come down, you were told to roll inverted and do a split-S to make the gear come down. (what if you were on final approach?)
