What I've Been Doing Instead of Building Model Airplanes
« on: December 23, 2010, 05:25:16 PM »
Making more blocks for the grandchildren.  It does keep my sanding skills well practiced so I'll be ready to start on my next plane in the new year.  I've been working on this set of blocks since the first grandson was about a year old.  Now he's 6, there are two more grandchildren (a boy and a girl) and another on the way with an ETA of late February.  So I made almost 70 more blocks since about mid-October to go with the ones I've already made.  Hopefully, as time goes on they'll be able to appreciate the beauty of all the different woods, their colours and graining and chuckle over all the little 'Oopses' Grandpa made while making them.

Now, onto that Strega kit that's been kicking around for far too long.

It would appear from the photos that you've been playing with them too! Nice castle.

Clint, it was actually my wife who built the castle.  She's the artiste of the family.

And best wishes for a Merry Christmas to everyone out in StuntHanger land.

I did that for the kids when they were younger.  Including making doll cradles and desks.  The baby cradles are somewhere.  Only made two, one for the start of my family and one for the sister-in-law that used to be in Minnesota.  The rocking horses is the last items I made for anybody.  Maybe this coming year will get started on something again. The pics of the blocks make me want to get to the shop now.  Thank you. H^^

John, you are most welcome.  I'm just happy that you liked them.  My woodworking started when our son and daughter-in-law announced that the first grandchild was on the way and I got the brilliant idea that I would make a cradle.  Which I did and all three grandchildren have slept in it.  The fourth one won't be sleeping in it because our granddaughter has commandeered it for her dolls and stuffies but there will be photo ops.   I haven't done much in the way of "woodworking" other than the blocks since then but the equipment I now have sure makes the usual repairs around the house a whole lot easier with better results than when I was limited to a portable drill, Skilsaw and hand tools.

Have yourself a great Christmas!
