Made my day.
« on: November 13, 2023, 07:39:35 AM »

I live away from anyone who fly's control line in Abilene Kansas. Last Thursday, Jim and Todd Lee drove the 90 miles to come and visit. It really made my day. No one understands our love for control line accept other flyers. And both Jim and I are lovers of old ignition engines and old time stunt. There are very few of us left.

So we had a great time, although to short, it was a fun day. Both of them are the nicest both knowledgeable guys you can ever know. At 83 years old I have to many physical ailments to fly safely any more, but still love restoring old ignition engines to better than new.

Jim brought his history of control line books with him so I could sign the pictures of my planes in them.

My wife and I have talked about the great time we had since they were here and brought back a lot of memories. I really miss the comradery of control line people. As said before, no one else understands what we do or why we do it. Only control line flyers get it.

It would have been cool to have joined in on that get together!! Jim Lee was one of the first guys I met at my first contest back in '87 here at Buder Park. He really impressed me with the low pull outs of his SunFlyer model, I think it was. Todd was just a kid and we all watched him grow up! I am proud to consider them friends all these years along with yourself. I was always glad to see your smiling face at contests, Jim!! In this huge metropolis of St. Louis, it's getting to be the same way. I'm trying to pack in all the laps I can fly because I know I'll hit that point somewhere along the line. You hang in there and jump in here with advice and words of wisdom whenever possible!!
  Type at you later,

Thanks for the kind words Peter. And Dan, I wish you could have been here also. We just had so much fun together. I always marveled at your Shark flying.

I was exposed to control line flying back in the middle 40's at Swope Park in Kansas City. Before the glow plug came out. I have had a love for ignition engines ever since I saw the first one started up. Some things stay with you for life.
