Can anyone give me a reason why this worthless piece of sh** should not be shot? >:( >:(

We don't need maggots like this in our society.

That guy is a real piece of work....
If he likes rocks so much, let's give him about 5 years of making little ones out of big ones.
Gary

This trash serves no useful purpose to society. He is a clear and present danger to society. Shooting is too good for him, hanging would be better!

WHAT A REAL DIP s _ _ t.
Man, hope he likes making small rocks for a long time.

Tell me what caliber bullets you want and I'll send you a box........Crap! Wait a minute, I live in Californacation.... Can't buy ammo unless I have a "registered gun" of that caliber. (and that ain't going to happen)
Sorry Robert, Jerry

This idiot should have been put on the slab at the morgue. When are we going to let the police do their job. Waste of time with a taser, unless it was on full charge to eliminate the idiot. Why should tax payers have to house and feed him so he can break rocks or sit in a cage. Bring back capitol punishment. A good rope should be cheaper than keeping them caged for a life time. But I guess defense lawyers have to make a living. R%%%%

Death wishes gets you right down to his level. We have laws. If the system and its laws are not working then they need to be fixed.
-
BULLS***.
I don't wish him dead - I WANT him dead.
And I would pay to see it.
Please spare me the "his level" crap.

I truly believe Texas Pay Per view executions would significantly fund our school districts
the folks that pay $79 pay per view for fake wrestling are legion
-
Hmmmmm...
Tough one...
Try him in a court of law for terrorism. Sentence him to death. Execute him quickly to ensure he can never be responsible for bringing down an aircraft full of people.
I sincerely believe someone like this is a critical threat to any society.
Uhhh, That also goes for the Iranian that brought down the aircraft full of people in Irac!

Unregistered lasers should be outlawed. Laser purchasers should be finger-printed, and forced to undergo a 30 day "cooling-off" period while an FBI investigation is done to ensure the potential operator isn't already a felon.
Laser Operators (LO) should be restricted to operating their lasers in 400' square enclosed structures, and also receive "laser-training" that ensures they know what it feels like to have a laser strike their eyes (like pepper spray and tasers).
Laser Operators must become part of a community-based organization that insures the LOs against any claims of damages caused by errant laser bursts.
If the Federal Government can "fix drone operations," then surely it can create a Laser Operations Administration (LOA) department to save us all from "those irresponsible Laser Operators!"
The Feds could also tax pocket laser manufacturers to fund the new LOA. And make lasers under 64 ounces against the law!
Will "Laser Control" work as well as the FAA's UAS crap?
Seriously, the guy was an idiot. The court should burn one of his eyes with his own laser.

Gee, let's give government even more control of everything we can own or do. Want to register your TV and require a permit like they do in England?
This will not solve anything.
Gary
-
Gary....your sarcasm detector is broken......England or Canada has a clinck to fix it....9 month wait tho
-
The great USA solution would be for the person who eyes were damaged to sue the lazier manufacture for big bucks. This would stop the sale of high powered general use laziers. y1
-
In Australia, those strong lasers can only be bought if you have a weapons license!
Regards,
Wolfgang.
-
Again with the suing a manufacturer for human bad behavior.....grrrrr
Bloomberg want to when president remove the laws shielding gun manufactures so families can sue
Ok then....bring on the lawyers cuz all cars n trucks kill a boat load ever day.....
you cannot sue AirBus if a lufthansa pilot commits suicide into a mountain
you can sue Boeing when determined the crash was due to defective airplane

What s shock, (not) judging by the mug shot I would have guessed him to be a rocket scientist.
All they have to do is pass a law that requires registering your laser pointer and this will stop happening. :##
-
In recent years before I retired, my planes (airliners) were repeatedly shot at with lasers as we flew over the Verrazzano Bridge while descending on approach into LaGuardia. The perpetrators would intentionally aim at the cockpit hoping to blind us.
-
I’m sure our tax money even supported his conception.
-
So you'd all ban my pistol and rifle sight zeroing laser but not the guns themselves ::) or my laser pointer used lawfully in classes or a levelling laser used daily in hundreds of thousands of construction and engineering jobs? The genie is out of the bottle - you can't legislate against stupidity, as its in unlimited supply HB~>

Thankfully all aircraft landed safely. Luckily the suspect was not also armed with a rifle or powerful hand gun. If that were the case, the results could have been much worse.
Lets hope the pilots and law enforcement fully recover from any injuries and suffer no long term eye damage.
Actually there are reasons the alleged perpetrator should not be shot, though law enforcement would probably have been justified in doing so.
The suspect's facial expression suggests a very confused person. The shock of the taser may be a factor. That said, he might also be experiencing some type of psychosis, possibly due to a brain injury, mild stroke or tumor, infection, substance abuse or a combination of issues.
A thorough questioning and testing of the living suspect is more likely to yield a deeper understanding of what triggered his dangerous behavior, compared with only a postmortem autopsy of his brain.
Does the above make sense or am I over thinking the situation?

Hmmmm...my satire didn't strike a nerve, did it?
I thought for sure the allusions to PAR 336 would be viewed as an attempt at humor. I think I'll go fly an 8 ounce kite on 70' line. I promise not.to.carry a camera or pyro aloft.

Ed,
This thread is mainly emphasizing the difference between justice and vengeance. If folks feel that justice will not be forthcoming, they divert to discussing vengeance.
The only good news in this case was that law enforcement actually saw the illegal laser use take place so it is likely that prosecution will occur. Had they not seen it—and even better yet, caught it on camera—then in my understanding, prosecution would have been unlikely, even if they found the laser in the suspect’s pocket. That’s just how it is. He likely would still have been guilty of trespassing on a commercial property as well as driving their fork lift around since I doubt he was an authorized employee working at night. Could have been a problem if he had started ramming some of those structural supports though….
As far as gross medical deficiencies, the article says the suspect was transported to a medical facility, and then released to the officer’s custody. Who knows how conscientious the medical assessment was? How would they be able to tell if he did not cooperate? How come psychiatrists will argue in court all day long (if you let them) about whether a person is competent to stand trial? And if there is no facility with empty rooms to house a mentally disturbed person it gets harder to diagnose someone as being a danger to self and society if you’re going to have to turn him loose after the evaluation anyway. And if you decide not to release them you better have sufficient proof to deprive that person their complete freedom of movement. Or you lose your job or go to jail. (Habeus corpus.)
I think what most people want is an outcome where this individual will never shoot a laser at someone again. Especially not at an airplane. And, they would like to expand that to the point of not doing destructive things at all. And that’s the real problem for Americans. What do you do with a million people who are destructive? Whatever the answer is, it’s not simple. Up until the 1950’s, we used to house them in mental hospitals like Pilgrim State in New York. Just that one facility had over 13,000 beds. Then the docs said they had new chemical treatments (other than lobotomies) and that was a great excuse to close these expensive facilities that probably didn’t return many “cured” people back into society. So now we probably have greater drug use issues than back then, we have probably a fraction of the space in mental hospitals (normalized to the current overall population), and people often will not voluntarily take the meds that might keep them mentally stable. So, they are on the streets….
And since this has little to do with building model airplanes I’m going to try to move on. However, this guy’s illogical actions remind me of some the folks that either wander through, or deliberately walk—or ride bikes through—our circles when we are flying. Two of our sites at times have large homeless populations nearby. Sometimes just trying to talk to them causes mayhem….
The Divot
PS--By the way, if you work around lasers much, your employer may require a map your retinas. You may have to take periodic exams. They can see gross damage to the retina. I didn't ask about lesser damage, because I wanted to wear all the PPE I needed so I wouldn't have to find out. And you likely have to get training every year. Different lasers have different effects. The guy in this situation had what looked to be a diode pumped 532 nm laser. Seemed like a fair amount of divergence, which dilutes the danger some. On the other hand, there's an out-of-control kid on utube that is modifying laser products and claims to be jacking the power levels up. I would put him in the same category as the guy who wants to disseminate model files for plastic guns. Both are irresponsible and should have consequences.
