I am looking for something that I can use on my bench that I can stick pins in. For most larger wings I use a jig of some sort but I would like to be able to build right over the plans for some smaller designs. Years ago I could buy a product that I think was called Homosote. It came in 4'X8' sheets. It was like the 24"" x 48" ceiling tiles that you can buy now. I went to both Home Depot and Lowes today and found out that I would have to buy a case package of the ceiling tiles. Needless to say don't have a use for that many. Anyone out there using some other product that would fill the bill?

I use Dry wall, sheet rock whatever they call it in your area.

Yep. You can stick pins in it, no problem. And it's cheap to replace. As long as you have a solid, flat, bench top, the thinnest is fine. (3/8ths" ??)
