Wood Propeller Manufacturers

To anyone's knowledge are there any small companies out there making wood props?  Or any suggestions on the best brands for wood props and places to order from will be helpful.  Thanks

Xoar makes very nice wood props.  http://www.xoarintl.com/rc-propellers/

You can get nice wood props from Eric at RSM.  https://www.rsmdistribution.com/engines-10.php?menupage=engines.htm

There are also some decent looking wood props that are on the Chinese AliExpress site, but I'm not sure how to order or many other details.  I think MotorMan might have ordered/used some of them.
Laser-cut, "Ted Fancher Precision-Pro" Hard Point Handle Kits are available again.  PM for info.

Master Airscrew still makes some wood props, but not in any modern stunt sizes. Eric Rule said his RSM props are made by XOAR, to his design. There is or was a wood prop brand made in NZ a few years ago, but I don't recall what the brand name was. I may have a bookmark for them in my PC that needs to be resurrected.   :P  Steve

Master Airscrew seems to have revamped their whole line, and their wood props are available in maple or beechwood, I think. I have gotten a couple in 10-5 and 10-6 to check on a pitch gauge and done a very few flight tests on a Fox .35 with encouraging results. The same with their plastic props, and both seem to have a different airfoil. They are still about 1" less pitch than indicated on the prop so take that into account, but at least they are very consistent.
I have been testing Xoar props for my ST.60's and am encouraged by those also in the 13-5 and 13-6 range. Winter interrupted those endeavors.

I recently bought a bunch of Falcon wood electric props for my new toad, figuring that they were the flavour of the month for electric F3A boys, how could I go wrong?

Well, for my purposes I thought they were junk - high amps to get about as much handle feel as a wet fish, compared an out of the bag knock-off APC from hobbyking at a 10th the price. In fact, I depitched that ugly Hobbykunk prop from a 12x6 to a 12x5 and it's the best prop you could ever hope for at $2.73.

Also, just quietly, Turnigy (from hobbykunk) beech gas props seem to be dead ringers for J Zingers, I had a 16x8 Zinger on my 1/4 scale Cap 10b, swapped it for a "Turningham" (as my 83Y.O. flying buddy calls them) and I couldn't see any appreciable change on a tach, or in the air.

Check out for Hawk propellers at sdshobbyusa.net. I have a few on my RC planes and found them to be a decent quality props.

Yes, +1 Hawk propellers very high quality. I use the A type.

MM

I was wondering about these props.  Buying sight unseen can sometimes be a mistake.  Some time ago I took a chance on a few Turnigy wood props.  Some were very good, others were terrible--a big difference in blade thickness, etc.  Worse than what some have said about Zingers.

I have had good performance from the Brodak B Y & O props.  But, like all wood props I have seen, they are only available in whole number pitch.  Of course, the true pitch may not be the stated pitch, and they can be re-worked, but I would rather put my time into something else.

Interesting, but they only show 12-5 and 12-6, and no prices. Otherwise, I'm pondering the possibilities.  H^^ Steve

It's hard to beat the Xoar wood props right out of the package. They are light, good balance, and good finish. Not very expensive.

I loath the hobby King web site and any search function...BUT they do have a very large selection of many varied wood props...the few I got CHEAP are pretty damned good quality and did I mention cheap!

Interesting that the Vox props are made by Xoar for them.
I would know what to expect quality-wise. They should be very nice.
Steve, have you compared the Vox prop to the same D x P Xoar prop?
I wonder what the difference is.
I might do that very thing if I ever get a chance to fly. Been working way too much!!
