Looked somewhat like an F86, and there was a similar looking kit out, as well (Jetco, perhaps).

The Wicked Witch was published in the Nov 55 issue of Air Trails Hobbies for Young Men.  As mentioned above, the fuselage design was inspired by the F-86D.  Trike gear.  It had a tapered, unswept wing and horizontal tail.  56 inch span.

Plans are listed on Stuka Stunt.

There was a pic of a Wicked Witch in Stunt News a few years ago. I always wondered about it's "stuntability". Anyone actually flown one? Is it worth building for the classic event?

I have not seen one nor have I seen one fly.  The plans show a Fox 35.   (Remember, this was in 1955 when the thing was published.)  With the 56 inch wing, it appears to have a nice bit of area and the airfoil looks right as far as thickness and fairly blunt leading edge.  It looks like it would build heavy with the structure shown for the fuselage and wing.  I would think the amount of wood used could be reduced somewhat.  If the weight is kept within reason and with a good 40 or even a 46, there would be nothing wrong with the performance of this airplane.

There are a lot of places where structural weight could be reduced, like using 1/32" doublers instead of 1/16". This wold work up to be a really attractive Classic ship with its similarity to the F-86D  Keeping the weight to a reasonable limit would be the challenge to make this a decent flying airplane.

Designed and built by Don Hoag, Columbus Ohio. I sent my original ATHYM Plans to Randy Ryan in Michigan. He might send them to you.

I have the magazine, plans and started a fuselage about 15 years ago! :-D

Mr. Hoag was a YMCA director, and he modeled the plane after an all red F-86D.  Wesley Smith from Delaware was very keen on this plane and we corresponded about it for a long time after we met at the '93 NATS.

Everything Keith says is true, but he left out the part of the large asymmetry in the wings, similar to the *Original* Nobler.  I would use a LA 46, maybe a ST 456, or a Aero Tiger 36 in it. (of course a really high tech 40 wouldn't hurt! )

I would also note, that the nose is rather short, getting a suitable tank installed might be a bit of a problem.

Hi Walter,

I am sure you will have to notch the LE to get a tank in big enough for todays pattern using mostr of the engines we use.  Or do like Al Rabe and make square tanks.  ;D
