Curious to everyone's thoughts.
If you had only $300.... which KITS would you get..

That I had all the kits I already have be already built! LL~
Who has unbuilt kits? Come on, fess up! It has been said that only 10% of kits ever get assembled (87.2% of statistics are made up). Certainly the number of kits produced is way higher than the number of active modelers
I confess to having a man-high stack of unbuilt kits, and limited years to do them. :P
If I did build them, I haven't room to store the planes. Eyes bigger than stomach syndrome?
Reality sucks! HB~>

I've just counted - a paltry 21 unbuilt kits, all free-flight gliders, rubber or Jetex. But that's misleading - most of them have been built, but over photocopies of the plan and using my own wood, wheels, props. etc. I'm one of those cranks who have to select each little bit of balsa personally for the job it's supposed to do, which is something no big kit manufacturer could afford the time and effort for. In any case, all the kits concerned have printwood, which I'd have to cut out anyway: there's no way I'd try to improve on modern laser-cutting, and bad wood seems to be a thing of the past in the world of C/L, thank goodness. Merry Christmas!

I guess it would depend on what I have built. $300 would buy 3-4 mid sized Brodak kits if some were on sale. I'm well stocked in 25-40 sized planes so I might go for 1 full size modern PA kit.

At $300 any kit you want. LL~ Unless the $300 is the total you can spend on the kit and what it cost to build it. y1

Any planes you loved as a kid...dreamed about?
I went on this mission when I came back to the hobby
Had to have a Dick Mathis Mongoose, Carl Berryman Big Iron, Wooten Demon and VooDoo...yes there is a theme
also had to have a Rush Howard Nemesis II
I think most would want a Good RingMaster and Pat Johnston has some superb laser kits...His S-1 is a great kit and I have not yet built the RM 526 I got from Pat....designed for the slightly bigger Evo 36 and he also has an 576 for LA 40 LA 46 size engine as well as about a hundred other plans and short kits
Pat's plans, laser cutting and kit wood selection make them easy to build ....Don't know if he has any left but I got the S-1 RM Gold kit with all the stick wood, and hardware included....He normally cuts short kits
Who doesn't like the good looks and good flying of a Primary Force.... Mikey Pratt still kits these as the ARF is no longer obtainable
There is a lot of love for the Sig Twister and especially the Francherized versions... Sig still sells the ply rib kit and I think Walt Unland when he get better would be happy to sale you his Francherized beautiful kit
Want a super quick winter evening kit to build/bash and fly the snot out of learning new tricks... Phil Cartier's Rugged Stunt Trainer RST is a inexpensive and very durable kit for any OS La , Fp, Fx, .20/.25
Any way I think a $300 budget for just kits... may just get you a whole lot more than you imagine with some selections or one really good high end stunt ship from Randy Smith as well as many other cottage guys... Walt Unland, Eric Rule, Bob Hunt,
Fortunately I think we have more variety and much better kits today then when I was a kid shopping the Post Exchange or some local 5 n dime store
Good luck and happy shopping....
I remember one Christmas getting a $10 bill from my Grandma and absolutely could not make up my mind after literally hours of wish lists from the magazine ads....trying desperately to max out te most I could get

I am afraid to try and count the number of unbuilt kits I have. But if I had the space to do it right, it would be one of Bobby Hunts Classic Genisis kits with the lost foam wing and molding bucks. Then I would have to come up with the cash to get the right engine for it.

Just to name 2 off my head.

JH,
Just as an aside I have a set of Magician 35 ribs and spars here available. They can be made into a full kit if you like. That said, if you have a direction you want to go and an engine desired to be used, we can narrow the field of planes. I do have well over 200 designs drawn on ACAD and a laser to cut most any of them. I have a stack of various plans which are top performers and have designed a lot of planes for Brodak, RSM, Tom Dixon, Walter Umland, etc. Let me know if I can help out.

You will get biggest bang for your $300 by going with short kits from Pat Johnston and supplying your own controls and hardware. Pat's designs, laser cutting and balsa are all top notch.
