I am looking for some music wire (push rods and such) in 3/32" dia and want to know who has used wire like this from Mc Master Carr. Is the wire brittle, can it be used for control joiner wire, easily bent and tweakable, soldier easily, and where is it made .
In other words is it like the wire we used to be able to get??
Thanks a lot...

I got some 1/16" music wire and other sizes from McMaster-Carr and some from Small Parts. The Small Parts wire was shinier and straighter. The McMaster wire has a black oxide finish and has a slight curve to it, but McMaster may have other varieties than what I got. I haven't tested either, but the Small Parts wire looks just fine. Here's their 3/32: http://www.smallparts.com/Music-Wire-093in-Spring-Straight/dp/B001DEO1BQ?ie=UTF8&qid=1257807866&sr=1-18&pf_rd_r=04Y5AKKSGQXRQG4NSJY5&pf_rd_m=AIUBT5HP6PMAF&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_i=16414431&pf_rd_p=467590051&pf_rd_s=center-3 . You can probably look up the specs; I think both sources reference them.

A few years ago I needed wire....I went to a piano store that restores the instrument. I found super pieces of wire..USA and the correct carbon content. None of the Rainier beer can material......They gave me a life time supply....free. Just a thought 8)

As suggested earlier to someone who didn't beleive me, and as Scott just pointed out...REAL PIANO WIRE is the best way to go! Unless it is sold as piano wire, it is substandard to our use, if the life of our planes depends on it.Period.The metalurgy is poor in the K&S stuff(It is NOT the same wire we use to get!), and I dont know what McMaster &Carr is handling these days;buy some and TEST it....go with what you know, Gil!

Checked on piano wire today, only found it in spools. So I checked with small parts found 3/32 (.093) in 36" lengths, asked the young lady where it is made and was told it is made in the good ole U S A ...
Got some on order...
Sure do thank all ya'll for the help...
