Title: WINNER ANNOUNCED!! "FREE ARF FREE"
Post by: RC Storick on August 16, 2006, 04:30:51 PM
Stunt Hangar and Brodak will be giving away a ARF Super Clown. This plane is OTS Legal. Your choice of colors from the Brodak catalog. The drawing will be done in the same way as before.

The rules however have changed.

1) You must have your first and last name in your profile.
2) You must have made a post in the last 30 days. (This is to get more people involved)
3) You must have your pin on the map. If you have a problem placing it, let me know and I will help you.
So post now and post often! Let us know what you think!

This ARF provided by Brodak Manufacturing and John Brodak.

This plane just as our last give away is provided absolutely free of charge!!

Drawing will be held on 9-15-06

I'll tell you why. There are three kinds of people in life. Ones who make it happen then there's the ones who watch it happen and the last of the group the ones who wounder what the hell happened. I'll let you choose what kind of person I am.  **)

I have nothing to sell (except Stunt Hangar tee's) and nothing to gain.

As a side note the Super Clown is a really good flying airplane and tougher than one would think. I bought one to bang up learning the Mirror Pattern, the 4th crash took off the tail feathers but the first 3 were a little CA and back in the air.

Everyone in the club was pretty amazed just how well it flew and most were witness to a few of the crashes. Built it pretty much stock only change was a tail wheel instead of the skid for my stooge. Good airplane...

And How about one or two more rules. f~

Your karma has to be over 86. **)
And you had to be one of the first 10 to put your pin on the map. I was about number 6.

That will increase my chances any way.

Hi,

Postage to Australia for a 40 oz item is around $18.00 USD if you use USPS Airmail Letter Post.   The weight limit for letter post is 4 pounds.

Another good thing about the Super Clown ARF, it's a fairly small airplane so the box isn't oversized like most of the other ARF's, should help with the shipping costs.

Dan,

As stated above I built mine more or less completely stock, only issue I had was flap flutter and ended up solving it by slicing a piece off the rear of the flaps. I did it in steps but ended up with about 3/8 off at the fuselage tapering to nothing at the tip. Even this didn't completely solve the problem in high wind so I cut a triangle off the tips from about 2 inches in from the tip tapering to the hinge line and that seemed to fix it. as a bonus, the smaller flaps actually made it fly better.

The other changes I made were to solder washers on the control rods for keepers instead of using the spring things that came with it and used a Sullivan gold 4-40 clevis at the elevator.

My kit had a couple of hinges that were split where the pin went through. I just used Dubro hinges for the elevator and the stock hinges that were good for the flaps. I am sure John would have replaced them if I had asked but I had the Dubro's and it wasn't a big deal.

Not sure what the deal on the Super Clown is other than maybe most don't realize it's potential. Just haven't seen or heard of very many that are flying. Been trying to find out if the flap flutter is a common problem or if it was just my example.

In any case I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone, good flying airplane even though one wouldn't think so by looking at the numbers.

Hi Bob,

I have been flying a Brodak (kit) Super Clown since he first introduced it.  I was writing the product column for Stunt News back then and I did a review on it.  Must have 10-11 years ago! hahaha

I powered mine with a McCoy Red Head 29 (hybrid) and it's the only plane I have entered in OTS as of yet!  Min has always been a blast to fly, very easy and responsive.

No problem with flap flutter, guess I was lucky.  y1

It is a fun plane.

I won one of these at the FCM contest.  I am now in the process of assembling it. So far so good with it.  Not real crazy about the covering used, but it will be OK for it is to used for.  This will be my 8 year old daughters first plane to learn to fly with.  Hopefully she will get to use it on Labor Day.

FWIW, the Super Clown is Classic Legit, as well as OTS...we all need a Classic, right? OTS seems to be falling in popularity around these parts...

Also...in '03 & '04, we had a "trimming & coaching clinic" with a local lad (aka "PW") test flying the models and giving advise on adjustments. One of those models was Rich McConnell's "Super Clown". It got a good review from PW, who was surprised that it flew so well. Most everybody else had too much tipweight :X, or badly adjusted handles.   :-X  Steve

Hi Doug,

Aaron is still involved, but his business is taking most all his time.  Both his children are doing great.  I *think* he is going to fly at Huntersville in October.  He has very, very few flights on his new Satana.  It looks like it is going to be a good one!

His daughter is already 5 years old, and his son is almost two.  I can't believe it!  #^

Hey Sparky,
I finally got to fly OTS last weekend at the Lee, Mass. meet that's run by Bill Hummel and Guerry Beyers. Had lots of fun even though we got rained on for Sunday. I wouldn't mind winning that OTS ship because I had a lot of fun flying that OTS pattern, someone lent me a plane to fly. It's a little weird, especially if you've never done it before. I did have an expert coach in the circle with me, Jim Damerell was gracious enough to coach me through both flights. I'm sure we made quite a hit in the circle together.
Yours in STUNT,
Bob "Champione"

Congratulations, Greg!

As Sparky said, we had 7 draws before we found a winner!  The first 7  (yes 7) were disqualified, mainly, for not following the directions in the "Terms of Agreement/Membership" and didn't have their full real name in the Profile.

The "Username" is your Profile name.  It can only be seen by you and admin.  It does not show in your posts, that is what you put under "Name".

We didn't write the software, and it *might* be a little confusing, but I (or Robert) can change your profile to make it legal and you will still have your "screen name".

Otherwise, you will not be eligible (like the first 7 tonight) to win any of the drawings.  From what Sparky is doing, I think the drawings will only get bigger and better.

Hi Bill,

As Sparky said, the "signature" is fine to use for your full name.  At least 5 of the first 7 my wife drew did not have their real or full name anywhere.  Just an "alias".

The other 2 (IIRC) had not posted to the forum at all, much less in the last 30 days.

Hopefully, anyone interested in C/L stunt would get "qualified" as there are going to be some good stuff given away in the future.

BTW:  The "MAP" qualification" is null and void.  You do not need to be "on the map".  Seems there are some "bugs to be ironed out in the program".  y1

Hey Greg,

You have good taste.  :)!

I just bought a Baby Clown ARF, and it is also black.  ;D

The truth is that I didn't pick the color, just grabbed the box, because it was on sale at my local hobby shop. After looking at the contents of the box, I've decided it's the color I would have picked anyway.

The only reservations I have is visibility. I'm not sure how the Clown will show up, when flying against a dark background?

"Put some Chrome Trim Monocote on the canopy and rudder!"

Bill,

Funny you should suggest that, because the canopy is in fact silver, and the rudder a nice bright shade of red. ;D

Came in the box that way, so someone at Brodak was obviously using their head when the specifications were written.  Where do you suppose they learned Chinese?   ;D

I worked part time in a friend's hobby shop for about a year, and this Brodak Baby Clown ARF is head and shoulders above anything I've seen! It just amazes me, that they can sell it for less money than it would cost me to build it from scratch!  ~^
