Wing pants

I keep my planes hanging in the garage. In an attempt to keep dust off the wings (and anything from maybe punching a hole) in the wing I cut old sweatpants in two and slip them over the wing.
Was just wondering if that add weight might cause a wing to warp.

I hung my profile stunters from a 'bridle' that cradled the fuse. There was a Magician that I covered the wings on, I used a pair of pillowcases.

After 2 years, I took the plane down to service it to fly. Anhedral City! Wing had sagged about 1/2" each side.

I gave the plane to a youngster that did a little 'detail painting' on it and flew it like that. Flew perfect, but looked a little 'saggy'...

Maybe 20 years ago I wrote a little piece about this and my concensus on it is its best to hang from the tailwheel wire or the nose (likely best).  The weight of the model itself will pull bows and warps in short order,  especially where there are large changes in temperature and humidity.  For sure not near furnaces or hot water tanks and not in laundry rooms.  Garages aren't the best because of large temp changes.  Hanging from the leadout will surely increase engine and rudder offset over time.....

Paul, I would suggest "slinging" them by the wings somewhere about 1/3 out from the root on both sides.

I hang them either nose down by tail wheel or soft strap around the stab/fuse. Or nose up by the landing gear.
The wing just HAD soft pants over them.

I use strips of panty hose. Give it a try.

Hang piped ships by the LG to let the oil drip out. Others by the tail wheel or LO's.

60 yrs., no known problems...

Dont cover the wings, just dust'em off!

That's how I've always stored mine, just thought the wing sling thing might be a space saver.

I hang by the leadouts, but I am running out of rafters on my side of the basement.

I have 1/4 inch foam covers for my stunters, hang from tailwheels. Even the pipe ships.

When hanging planes I have usually hung them with a peice of cord wrapped around the aft end of the fuse catching the stab/elevator.   I also hang by the leadouts by clipping the leadouts together so the grab a coat hanger hook I make.   So far only  one plane has had a wing warp.  It was also a flimsy wing to begin with.  Another thing is look at how Windy and a few others have made racks for the planes to rest on.
