Title: wing area
Post by: Gary Dowler on October 03, 2017, 03:23:20 AM
Ok, this might be a dumb question.  When calculating wing area do you include the area of fuselage between the wings, or just the wings themselves?
Example, years ago I built a Sterling Corsair kit. Wing area came out to around 222sq in without the fuselage area, or about 240sq in with it.  (remembering waaaay back on that, numbers could be suspect).  Which would be considered correct?

It is customary to include the part extended through the fuselage, both in models and full-sized aircraft.

And include the flap area as part of wing area. The question seems to come up often, so now it has already been answered.  n~ Steve
