1977 Riverside Nats
« on: December 20, 2022, 02:09:28 PM »
Does anyone have pictures from the 77 Nats? Here are a few I have found.
Al Rabe, Bob Whitely, Bob Gieseke, Lew’s Shark 45 and me with my (Jack Sheek’s) Moondust.
As the then brand new Moondust had some trim problems - tail heavy, I flew my Bob Palmer Hurricane (which developed a tank problem, that never reoccurred). Both planes still flying.

My favorite picture so far is the van loaded with Combat wings!

I have many others, but the quality is poor, so not worth posting.  D>K Still have all the negatives. H^^

Thanks for posting those Ty. I hope you don't mind but I ran them through a very quick photoshop touchup and got rid of the magenta from the old color process aging.
Yours are more authentic but thought some might like these better.

FWIW, you could probably get very nice scans off those negatives. Don't be too discouraged by looking at old, faded prints, the negs probably aren't half as bad as you think.

Wow, memories.  Snaggletooth and the 'Lil Red Airplane.  I had just started flying with Bob and Al in '77.  I couldn't make the Nats, but look at those scores!   They were typical of that time frame around here.

Thanks for posting guys, great stuff from what I consider the "heydays" of all types C/L competition. I never get tired of looking at Al's models either, the all-time master of mixing stunt with a scale look.

Also, please don't ever think a photo is "not worth posting", let us be the judge!  ;D
