I was talking to my brother who was out at the Swim club lot in Teaneck NJ . He was describing Windy's new plane. The Tribute. Does anyone have photos of it they care to share?

I think the plane is supposed to be a downsized version of a Patternmaster I think, but not sure.

It doesn't look like an Impact either; aesthetically or aerodynamically. It's interesting, though.

What I meant was I think it is supposed to be a downsized version of a PM aerodynamically, the asthetics is his own. I believe most, if not all of Windy's planes is based off PM numbers.

To me, it closely resembles "Tradition", the way cool red plane that has about 5000 flights on it...pretty airplane...Midgley has it and is repairing/restoring it.

Windy’s new plane is new aerodynamically. You are right that a lot of Windy’s past designs took Big Jims Patternmaster aerodynamics and used them to create a new design. This new plane was designed as a tribute to his favorite workshop helper “peeps” who passed away a few years ago hence the name “Tribute”. The design shares some of the perfected features from his Miss Ashley composite plane. It is smaller than his usual planes designed specifically around the new Rojett FIRE 61 (although he is currently using the Rojett 76 as a powerplant)
The wing is a Midgley composite version hand finished by Windy and it has a very clever solid tail and innovative built in trim tabs. I am working on the plans this year which will be unusual in containing a support pack of digital media taken from the DVD’s of the actual build, and will feature CAD and hand drawn 3D illustrations.
I hope this helps fill in the gaps.

That could be Jose Modesto. It looks almost like that plane has no cowl.

Nope, no cowl per se. Just a big opening in the bottom to take stuff out and put it in. It's a slick solution.

I've atually been thinking of doing that, just have the fuse sides got out and make a design at the end of them for a cowl. THe motor would get plenty of cooling and it wouldn't be as much of a pain as my Ares cowl trying to get my finger in there to prime it.

Will the plan be available from Windy?
Is it "composite" construction or also possible to do the "old fashioned" way?

The "Tribute" looks a lot like a blend of Cardinal and Strega, in the appearance department...still a bit bizarre. I suspect the reasoning is to make it "different", i.e., something that will stick in the minds of the AP judges. ???
I like it better than either of those, but there are a few things I'd change, of course. y1 Steve

The wing that is in the Tribute is the same wing that he used in the Novanta and his Testarrossa, not quite sure about the moments on this plane. The stunters he designs, I really like the asthetics of them. The one thing I would want to change on the tribute to change the canopy to look like the Novanta.

Ever since his Sweeper was published which was out of the norm. I think Windy has been right on the edge of design. His semi-scale planes are the ones that have always fascinated me. He is another of the great artists we have in the model airplane family. Have fun, DOC Holliday
