Is there a source for these wide track (I stole that from John DeLorean of the Pontiac Wide track fame) landing gears either out of carbon or other materials? I am including a picture of my friend and clubmate, the late Allan Perret's Ringmaster deluxe which shows a glimpse of the gear in the picture. I am looking for a source that manufactures these and do not have to be custom made.
Thank you
Mike

Mike the gear that he had on there was made from laminations of wood that he made a jig for and molded them to that shape

I know where the jig is at if you want to try to make a set

Another option. This is a stock Brodak aluminum gear cut in half.. Wheel tread on this one is a whopping 22 inches!

Or, you can wing mount and put them wherever you want.

Here's a real wide track landing gear system. You may not want to try this if you land hard. It's a bummer to have to keep reinspecting the wing spars and skins (for buckling) after each oops.

I will give you a call John and we can talk about it. Thank you.

The thing I remember about Allan's plane is how springy the gear is. I would get some aluminum and bend my own. Better yet make them wing mounted.

Find the article on building the Stunt Machine. He made wide-track landing gear using two different sizes of music wire to stiffen the wider span. It is heavier than carbon-fiber gear, but no one seems to make a really wide set in carbon fiber. Here is my Neptune with the gear I made.

I made my own.

I made my own.
Wire or carbon fiber? If carbon fiber, what's th process?

Scott,
I used prototyping material. Made up a plug and poured a mold. Then used carbon fiber cloth and tow to lay up the gear. Good news it, it's not that tough to do. Bad news is, the mold doesn't tend to hold together for more that 3 or 4 pulls.

Thanks Randy. To avoid the plug and mold making, I wonder if anyone has tried to use pre-made carbon fiber tube as components to make up a set of gear?

Depends what model size you mean. Carbon gears in carbon or white color are available, wheel distance 330mm. I use them (white) on my 1800g Max Bee.

Hi Igor,
If my conversion is correct that is almost 13 inches and that would be fine. Where do you get them?
