After the official flying was over on Saturday, it was practice time and then party time.  During practice some flight training went on with some of the kids there.  And, of course, there was the accompanying crashing.  This ended in a "frozen" engine.  It would not turn over after its last crash...

It got passed from flyer to flyer as each of us tried to figure out what was wrong and how to get it to turn over again.  Finally I  said "let's give it to the world's greatest mechanic and see what he can do with it" and handed it to Dick Houser.  Dick looks at it for a second and then jumps up and starts walking over towards his flight box.  Dang!  He's going to fix it on the spot!  Uh, no, instead he grabs one of the garbage cans, takes the lid off of it, pulls it into the open and walks back to us.  He then pulls out a dollar bill, tosses it on the seat of a chair and says "a dollar a throw, winner takes all."

So everyone jumps up and throws a buck on the chair.  Except for Tim Stagg.  "I only got a five" he says.  Me: "so you get five throws" !

So Tim hefts the engine a couple times in his hand and then proceeds to toss it.  Right dead center into the garbage can!

Holy cow!  So  everyone else takes their turn and  misses!  We hit the ground, we hit the side of the can, we hit everywhere but into the can.

So, Tim wins it all!

And then, I go to pick up the engine after the last toss and low and behold: it's unfrozen!  Dick has fixed the engine!   (The Houser works in mysterious ways!!)

It was a great contest!

Wow....The East Coast version of the "Hurl".

I like this concept. It doesn't take a strong arm, just accuracy.....Kind of like stunt!

Nice!!

Doesn't take a strong arm?  You haven't flown my PA-51 powered Legacy!  (I think my right arm is now 2 inches longer than my left.)  :'(

As with many things, the East Coast Hurl was completely unplanned.  Just needed the usual wackiness to get it going.

Unfortunately, this year - no moonshine.

But, as usual, Palko won.

I was referring to the "Fox toss into the can" event.
That's where accuracy is needed!
