Title: Why, Why, Why???
Post by: john e. holliday on March 05, 2008, 11:25:48 AM
I know brother Bill is going to slap me for this, but, I am doing it anyway.  Went to post in the Classic section the pictures of the Spit & 39.  Was reading/catching up with some of the posts.  Notice that someone has gotten upset over some trivial thing.  Oh, I know there is no such thing as a trivial thing in some peoples eyes.  We are allowed only so much time on this peice of rock that is floating thru space.  Every body has an opinion and also they have their way of doing things.  We all have different personalities and that to me is part of modeling.  Years ago when it seemed people would play mind games on the competition it would get to certain individuals once in awhile.  I felt kind of sorry for some of them.  One I can think of was very jumpy when flying the pattern, especially in competition.  We rode him until there was nothing that bothered him.  Another was an individual that would cover his airplane with a blanket claiming it had some secrets he didn't want nobody to know about.  His closest competition at the time couldn't handle the secrecy.  I have had people tell me I was doing something wrong and how to correct it.  Got to the point that I was considered a snob because I would ignore almost everyone.  Needless to say unbeknowest to them I would try it in practice at home, not at a contest.  But, as my brother Bob usually stated if they can't handle a little criticism or ribbing,  goodbye.  Of course he was 3 inches taller and outweighed me by about 50 pounds at the time.  Wish he was still with us at times.  Now Bill, get the horse whip out and let me have it,  DOC Holliday

Hi Doc,

No slaps! LOL!!  Unless it was the Swinger thread, I have no clue as to which thread yo are referring to.  I know we are all cool on that, now, at least I hope we all are!

 Amen Doc,

Yep, people for some time now have needed to lighten up and quit their whining, which is usually what it amounts to. Myself, I relate a lot of it to the short attention span generation(s) with that grow up playing computer games instead of building and flying model airplanes, crashing their bicycles, or blowing up their Hot Wheels with firecrackers or, uh... ;D
The sad thing is that I only see it getting worse, because the way these people see it world owes them everything.

I feel if folks would simply compete with themselves instead of every one else all would be smooth.  If I win a contest it isn't because I beat the other flyers, it's because I finally did something more better than the last time I flew. y1 y1 y1

Will,

I agree with you and Pogo: "We have met the enemy, and he is us" (me). :!

Cheers,

Jim

Didn't know there was an "issue"  Besides the RNMM has even invited me down for a pitcher of "sweet tea" (wink wink) but I don't know why they are worried about 'revenuers?  ???

Some of these threads or even sometimes just a couple posts go way off kilter for who knows why.  A couple postings or forums over the same guys will be falling over each other having a good time.  It happens, we get over it, and with a little luck we'll get to laugh about it while we quaff a few...   010!

Ditto on the concept that the only person I compete with is myself.  If I do good in my own eyes I am happy, if not I work harder.  I look at it this way someone has to hold up the board everybody can't be at the top. ;D  I have also learned over the years that there is nothing in this hobby that can't be made better with a cold beer after the flying is done! y1

Perhaps those of us who are of the vintage to have read that Pogo quote when it was in the current issue of MAD magazine (comic book) tend to be more mellow.  ;D  ::)  H^^

When I first started racing bike I never won anything so I used to tell the other guys that I was still an important part of the race. If I didn't lose they couldn't WIN. LL~ LL~
