New storage rack.
« on: December 28, 2021, 11:13:59 AM »
Hobby room at the new house isn’t real big, so trying to make efficient use of space, I came up with this.  Each level hinges up/down.  Keeps my shoestrings and Akromaster all in a pretty small space.

Neat.

I particularly like the wood chips on the shelf below the rack.

Nice concept.  How is it hinged?

Gotcha.  I see the 3/4" PVC mounting bracket, and now understand it provides adequate friction to keep the plane up.  The relief in the upright to accommodate the elbow is a nice detail.

Thanks!

Agreed! I didn’t know if anyone would catch that either, and I forgot to mention it.    Also, notice the PVC cement at the joint of the elbow and crossmember. Played with it without this, and it allows slop in the alignment of the poles because there are two joints that can slip or come loose.
It’s solidly locked together now.  You just have assemble it on a flat surface (the elbows onto the cross piece) because that glue works fast, and you have only a few seconds to make sure both sides are parallel!   Trust me on this issue.

Very practical, Gary, love the use of inexpensive materials: PVC pipe, fittings and the electrical conduit straps to make a very compact but practical storage unit, planes don't take up much room to boot.

Well done.  Now you get to fill all that space you saved with more airplanes!
