Why is it???
« on: July 02, 2014, 04:57:07 PM »
I checked the forecast last night. Slight chance of T-storms today. Nice and sunny all day while I'm at work. I get home from work this afternoon and check the radar. All clear. Put another battery on the charger and plan on packing up.
Look out and see a dark cloud headed my way. Check the radar the radar again and see this!

Guess it is like when I am at the field and have a slight breeze, pick up my handle and a nor'easter starts howling.

Batteries are electric.  Thunderstorms are electric.  Jeeze, can't you see the connection here?

(I had a sorta-nice day flying today, except for the sleep deprivation and the crash caused by a software bug).

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Happens to me all the time. Usually high winds though. I suppose God isn't too concerned about our flying time. He has a bigger job to do.  ;)

I love what phones do to one's typing.  Don't you mean the clam after the storm?

Weather is always a problem for me here in the middle of Kansas. It takes me 35 to 40 minutes to get to the field and I always check the wind before I go. But, invariably when I get there the wind sock is hanging straight out and it is gusty maybe to 25 or 30 mph. Since I am there I usually fly anyway just to not waste the trip. If I do a vertical 8 and the wind blows me down to 30 deg. and I have to fly it out inverted, I know its blowing to strong to do that. Sometimes I just do lazy 8's and fly around doing only stuff I know I can get away with. That way I still have fun and get to feel that tug on the handle and go home with a smile on my face. I have had my Taurus with the Spitfire pull me out of the circle on windy days, and I weigh about 180. As Dave Thornburg said in his book, " a couple of flights on and ignition plane is about all the exercise one needs in a day."

I agree 100% When it's time to have some intense fun and put those flying cravings to rest, hook up a Streak and point it where you want it to go!

Actually that looks like a Streakaray. I'm building one of those now. To the casual observer it will appear to be a full blooded Streak, but it's a Ray in disguise.

Got to fly tonight too.....in some good winds. A club member sold me a well built LIGHT Chipmunk with an OS .40.
Built by a top builder. Turns on a dime. Need time with it but sure had a terrific evening flying it and my Super clown. Prowler is still being re-booted.
The winds prevail and so we sail.

It is a Skyray fuse so it's a little longer then a Streak. From the handle it looks like a SKyray. Everything else is Streak.
Flys real well.

I noticed in the pic I bumped the tank down.

I could show you some radars that would scare you. Here you can pretty much see it coming a couple of hours away. Don't count on more than that. Miami is like that.

It's like when we get into a certain weather pattern here. You get 2 or 3 days of perfect weather in a week. And they generally fall in the middle while I'm at work. Come the weekend, it's pounding rain. Fun, fun, fun.

You poor working stiffs.  I loaded up the mower and went and finished mowing.  Dave had part of it mowed already.   He likes the grass really short.   By the time I was done the wind was blowing my hat off.  So I came home and put all the mowing stuff away.  Went out today.  Like I told Dave I seldom get up before 0900 and that is because the dogs say to get up.  By the time I checked my E-Mail,  Stunt Hangar and ate something I headed to the field.  Not enough breeze to no where to do maneuvers once I got the Ro-Jet working again.   The Fox .25 I am ready to put on the auction block.  Raised the tank a good 1/4 inch and the thing still goes rich inverted.   I did get a couple of patterns in on the RO-Jet and called it quits.   Hopefully will get out again tomorrow.
