Count me in!

(I just barely missed the Cuban blockade.)  Got out 16 days earlier.  If I would have been in, I would have been extended 2 years and then would have made it my career.  I often wonder....????

I'm there! Sonarman 3rd class USS Collette DD730. We patrolled the coast of Vietnam during the early 60's. Today I'm in route from CA to MT and will miss Fresno's annual Veteran's Day Parade. It is the oldest Vets Day parade in the US, and a really BIG parade.

This is a day that I always set aside for prayers for all veterans.  A special thank you goes out to my father, 1917-1918 army air service in France.  My Uncle Frank, KIA 6/18 in France.  My son Jason, Army, Desert Storm, and my grandson Logan, Marine having served in Afghanistan and still in the service. BLESS THEM ALL!

I will add my appreciation, respect and admiration also. My son Sean just arrived back in Afghanistan for his second tour there and fourth overall. My Dad was a WW-2 Navy vet along with almost all of my Uncles. My oldest brother Tom was a machinist Mate on the sub tender Orion, brother Tim did a 40 year career in law enforcement with the St. Louis PD., brother Ted was 82nd Airborne in Vietnam, and brother Terry was on nuke attack sub Trepang. My own personal "Band of Brothers" so to speak!

My deepest respect to all those who have, those that are, and those who will serve this great country. I'd like to mention some family members who have served:

Frank Orman, US Army, KIA, France, June 1944
Charles (Uncle Charles) Orman, US Marine Corps, 1942-1945
Robert (Uncle Bob), US Army Air Corps, B-17 pilot, 15th AF, 1942-1945
And last, my father, Roy N. Johnson, US Army, 2nd ID, EOD, 1951-1954

How could I forget Veterans Day?   Had two brothers that were Army plus an Uncle.   Watched classmates and friends go into the services to defend our great land.   Some I never heard from again.   Uncle Sam thought I was unworthy.   In my mind I think like some countries, there is a place for every one who wants to serve for at least two years.
