I’ve seen several engines with these initials or Serial number vibra-penciled in.  Example JR 15.  See photo

Engines I’ve seen with markings include OS 40 FP, HP Gold Cup 40, and Thunder Tiger 36

JR is  me,  many of my very early motor  I just use a serial number and my initials  J R   (James Randall)
That is one of my OPS engines you have there, and  maybe is  AAC special

Thanks for solving the riddle.   

The motor in question (in the photo) is a Thunder Tiger 36.  It features an Aero Products spray bar, needle valve and venturi.    SN JR 15 is on the bottom of the case.

Is this an early Aerotiger?

that is   not an Aero Tiger, or a  Thunder Tiger, the engine  shown in your picture  is  an  OPS 40 
As you can clearly see it is a center case with removable  front housing,  NO  Thunder Tiger 36 was like that, plus the casting  surface is  OPS

Hi Randy,  You are correct.  The Thunder Tiger on hand has your venturi, spray bar and NV, but not the JR 15 marking.  The photo is one of the three OPS 40 on hand.  Two of which are yours. (JR 15 and RANDY 49)

The OD of all three OPS liners are visisble at the exhaust and are brass colored.  I suspect none are AAC.  How did they run?  I don't recall many OPS powered stunters.  Maybe some of the early piped models??

They run well  either  way, as long as they have the  proper size  venturi,  I setup a boatload  of the  OPS SPA  RE 40s  both  AAC  and  AAC, They were the  second strongest of the  pipe 40 engines, 
I ran them  late 80s  untill  about 1993, then the  PAs  replaced  them
People like  Bill Werwage,  Bob Hunt, Rob Hunt ,Bob McDonald, The BEAR , Frank McMillan,  and  dozens of other  used the  40 SPA  in their  stunt ships
