Who is "control line control line" on Ebay?
« on: April 03, 2014, 01:50:32 PM »
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cox-049-control-line-engine-lot-/141245312614?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276#ht_41wt_1123

Have you noticed the ongoing deluge of Ebay postings from this seller?  He is in the process on liquidating an obvious CL hoarder's stash on item at a time.  It seems that he has placed an individual price tag on each morsel of sawdust from the  floor.  While the starting prices are often astounding, a few items have tweaked my interest.

I'm more interested in who might have collected to huge stockpile.

Ten mostly partial, used Cox reedies for $8.00 apiece?

Yes, that's asking a lot for a little.

Bottom line is that any one can ask any price they want on ebay. If you don't like it don't bid. Doesn't really get any simpler than that.

Well, yes.  And then we can question the intelligence and/or integrity of the seller for trying to foist over-valued stuff onto the buying public.

If it sells, I have a bucket full of Cox engines I'm not using...

I made a note that, last week, a used Aero Spark coil went for $127.50 on e-bay.  AMAZING!  It didn't even look very good, but it came with a box and original data sheet.

A used Aero Spark coil in good condition is worth about $25.  No more.

I'm not questioning his prices.

Just take a look at his stuff.  This guy is cashing out a huge CL hoard, of all classes dating back 65 years or more.

 Precisely. y1

There are a LOT of things listed on Ebay at ridiculous prices, however, it doesn't mean they're actually getting sold. If the seller does hook some "sucker" at a ridiculous price and get the sale, it's the suckers fault, not the seller.

I can think of a lot of guys that fit the description. Including me, but I neither buy nor sell on ebay. So far, anyway!  H^^ Steve

I only see 10 listings under the name for the item you address.   As stated,  if you don't like the starting bid, ignore it and go to the next item.   It is amazing how some stuff goes sky high and others like the spinners and props I sold only got the opening bid.   Had to reimburse one shipment cost as the bay miscalculated.

The link sends you to a listing by "joeandmel200" and the other few items they have listed are pretty much run of the mill stiff with low starting bids. Got a mix up on the link?

Floyd I saw that coil go for an obscene price... and you are spot on on the price $20-30.. I sold an OK Coil NIB to Parker last year. It was nice and sold for about $32...

I just looked at this sellers items and I don't think he is out of line one bit... have you seen what Cox Glow plugs go for?

As a buyer and seller with over 2000 transactions... I offer money back if you are not happy... I don't care what the reason is.. all I care about is not loosing money on shipping because "you wanted to try on the shoes"... plus I have resorted to taking almost every engine I sell apart and inspect them.. I had one buyer who wanted his money back because " rod was worn out"... turns out the rod will get that "bump" when turning it over when the wris tpin and rod are "glued".. there was nothing wrong with the engine.. I still gave him his money back... another guy bought a 1957 NIB Fox 35 Combat Special for $157... he said it had been "run" ... I still to this day claim it may been started at the factory... as Duke advertized that they started every engine... thre it in a box and a yr later put it on the Bay for $9.99 ... it sold to a guy named Dennis for $206... he came to my house to pick it up... he even came to the one of the contests... he was so happy with his new engine...

There is a guy trying to get $500 for this auction... do you think it will sell?

I have seen some crazy stuff selling on ebay... I sold an old tube radio for $610... and it was given to me in a box lot of old radio parts and radios.. the cool thing was it still worked..

"Reedie", with an "R", not an "N" in the front, is a nickname for a Cox reed-valve engine.

And if you buy ten of something for $80, they're costing you $8 apiece.

I see that now.  Yes, I am familiar with the term "reedie", but my mind's eye saw it as needles.  Brain fart.

Well I am beginning to think there is a group on Ebay that is watching out for each other.   I listed four items which was supposed to be free listing.   Three items sold for the starting, one didn't.   Will not be relisted.  Got bill from Ebay for the listings.  I made a total of 90 cents on the items.  Not counting the gas and time going to post office.

As for collectors go, check this out for pricing.

Short of some never sold prototypes, it IS the rarest of Cox engines. The Venom is closest with only 1000 made.

Yours truly engineered both!  ;D
Think S.M.A.L.L. y'all and, it's all good, CL, FF and RC!

I'm glad those never happen to me.  Just Friday, when I spent 30 minutes in Home Depot shopping for stuff I didn't really need because I showed up at my kid's school at 3:00 instead of 3:30, I said to myself "I'm glad I never have brain farts!"

I buy used Cox engines/parts not infrequently.  I just keep an eye out for something I like, and buy if it's low.  Like a PeeeWee .020 in good condition for $6.00.  Or the occasional TD/Medallion for $15-20 bucks.  And, if I'm in a mood, I'll buy an engine lot if I can get them in the $5 a piece range.  Usually a new gasket and reed, and they're running.  I've actually been quite lucky on the glow heads, with only about 1-in-10 being weak/dead.  Besides, I just LIKE old Cox stuff.
