Are you going? It should be fun...Derek and Wendy are threatening to go. That means Da Dirt will go, and that means Bruce and Kris will be there. Would like to see a good turnout...it's a fun contest. I should hit the border at about 6am Friday. Look for the big lineup...that would be behind me, because they're strip searching my truck again. But this time, I DON'T CARE! That should give the rest of youse a free pass. When they're done messin' with me, I'm going to pop the hood and check the oil, and wash the windshield and check the air in the tires...and block up one of their parking spots. Any other ideas of how I can delay my departure from the border "kiosk"?

I'm goin'...can't stop me now! Got my passo de puerto...oopsy, gotta take the Ruger GP-100 outta the truck.  LL~  Steve

I won't make it to Canada this year. We're headed down to Calif in the morning. We have a Friday court date in Santa Cruz to finalize the adoption of our new, now 7 month old, grandson. A great family occasion! Stopping to see Uncle Jimby on Wednesday and snoop around in his shop for a while. Then we'll hit the Great American Arf-Off in Woodland on the way home Sunday. Jimby has promised me something to fly. Hey, it meets the spirit of the rules. Should be a great week.

Regards to all,

Jack

Jimby said you are going to the ARF-off.  Be careful, though.  Hair could grow on your flying hand.

Sorry, Steve.  Wendy and I will not attend this year.  Wendy has her high screwel reunion this weekend and I'm afraid that trumps just about any activity I could dream up.

Jack!  I'll send those tips.

Have fun, guys!

Hi Jack,

We will be at Jimby's tomorrow evening for the free meal, looking forward to seeing you.  You are certainly invited over for a tour of the Diva Factory and PTG studio which in it's current CLEAN state has too much stuff.  Anytime works for me, don't get out much these days!  Just let me know.

Won't be going to the ARF Circus as my flying ability has been reduced to simulated RC sitting in a lawn chair in the living room.  if you get in early or when ever you can find time.

I am planning on going up there. I have to move my daughter in Bellingham friday so I will be in the area with my van. I'll need to get to TNA thursday to make sure my tank change in the Vector worked. If not I''ll still go up to provide moral support. C U there.

Or you could stop by Arlington Friday AM.  The field is a short diversion from I-5.

Steve,
If you get to the border by 6:00am and with your anticipated short delays for strip searching and all you should get to the field by about 10:30.  By that time I'll have in at least 30 practice flights.  I will have your new Super Belchfire 76.  It only has about 50 flights on it so it still isn't broken in.

Oops, I have an appointment Friday morning, so I won't be there.  Rick Cochrun is usually there, though.

I hope Howard means "there, at Arlington". Not "there, at Rice Mill Road". We'll miss Derek and Wendy and Jack and Randy. Hmmmm...more burgers and beers for us'ns what do go!

Thanks for taking care of the Belchfire, Alan. I'm sure it's running well enough by now.  LL~ Steve

Well those that didn't make it missed a good one.  Two days perfect stunt weather, the usual great Saturday night get together at the Cox household with lots of food and drink plus one of mother nature's greatest displays of thunder, lighting and rain just after we finished eating.  Turnout was a bit smaller with the economy and the new US border regulations that require either enhanced drivers licenses or passports to return to the US.
Here are the results.

As is generally the case, rumors and truemors concerning the border crossings proved to be fairly nonsensical.

Going north it was a 20-minute wait at around 2:00 in the afternoon on Friday. No strip searches, no problem.

I had an ear giving me some discomfort, leaving for home mid-afternoon  on Saturday. I told Joan of the situation, gave her a big kiss and boogied. Apologies, but I simply did not feel up to giving everybody the same story over and over. It was easier just to rocket...

Border crossing again no problem, although I was asked, "Are you going to get a current passport anytime soon?"

Yep, I am still using the passport which expired in 1999, this backed up with a current drivers license.

More, especially in light of the folk known to have stayed home due to complications at the border: Going either direction there were troops out on foot, wandering amongst the cars. Going to the US one of these youngsters was asking folk if they had a passport or not. If so he would direct you to the left and it was a slightly faster lane. If passports were lacking one was directed to the right.

I saw not the slightest indication that US citizens were not being allowed to return home or even inconvenienced in any way.

Keep that in mind for the contest next year!

I crossed into BC at the Lynden crossing, directly N. from Bellingham. It's not open 24/7, but opens at 8am and closes at 7pm or so. I was there at 7:50 and was the first to arrive. Not so lucky on the return. The highway sign said Peace Arch was 90 mins., and "Pacific" was 60. I'd never crossed at the Pacific crossing, but followed the signs and it went ok. Had a fairly decent drive home...quite a bit was very relaxed, but some not so much.

Pulling into Renton, the GPS gave me a great chuckle. I have the Aussie chick doing the narrative...when approaching Washington Hwy. 900 (WA), she said "Turn right onto Western Australia Hwy. 900". I about hit the curb, from laughing. WAY funnier than being told to turn onto Forest Doctor SE...(Forest Drive SE).  LL~ Steve
