Well we got some flying in today, the weather was a chilling 69 degrees and the wind blowing out of the N/W at 4-7 mph.  some of the guys stood up to the challange and flew, even some Blonds!

It was about 59 but not much wind in NW Oregon yesterday.  I was sleeping in, but got a call from friend Jim at 9:00 "Look outside -- you gonna come fly?".  So awake I got, and flying I went.  It rained furiously on Friday, and our field is a level spot at the base of some serious slope -- so it was wet wet wet.  There were 6" deep puddles in the infield of the CL circle, although the center and enough of the rim was above water that we managed with hand-launches.  I took my Skyray and had a blast (and continued improving my beginner's pattern -- I'm in a happy stage of learning now where every time I fly is better than the last, with the average improvement outstripping the normal ups and downs).

The puddles impressed me enough to pull out this, and think of whether I want to build it.

Ro-Jet 65 I got a chance to fly it and it's a great flying plane grooves well and turns with no ballooning, the engine just runs in a solid 4 cycle.

Ty, this is the Bill Osbourne Model Airplane Field, in Alameda, California. It is an Alameda city park maintained by the city, dedicated exclusively to control line flying. We don't share with, or allow, any other kind of model flying. Two paved circles, one full size and one for half A and medium size models.  If you want an aerial view go to Google Earth and look for the intersection of Doolittle Drive and Harbor Bay Parkway.

Its actually a Trivial Pursuit dressed up like Macaluso's Crusader.

I have been flying it for the last four years with a GMA Jett .50. Its quite heavy at 74 oz. In fact, Uncle Jimby started calling it "Heavy Equipment" which caught on quick and now, thats what every around here calls it.

I recently fitted it with a RO Jett .65 and I wish I would have done it a lot sooner. The extra horse power has made a world of difference, as its now flying better than it ever has.
Too bad the plane has been beat to hell over the last couple of years. It looks pretty trashed but it is a blast to fly. After I finish up the two planes I'm building now, and get them trimmed, I think I'll refinish the Crusader and put a few more years on her.

Looks like it would be a good flier and the .65 muffled sounds like a good set up.  What prop do you use for that set up?  (I know, I know, aggravating ain't I??)

I have like the "looks" of the F-8 as a stunter since Vic's original was published back around 1971.  I have three different "anhedral" plans for a F-8.  Both of Vic's designs and a "tweener" that Tom Dixon drew up for a Dove wing and an ST .46-.51. 

Plus I have Mike McHenry's Dad's Corsair II plans (Classic legal) which is close enough to an F-8 for "govment" work as far as stunters go. 

Maybe I will have to go ahead and build one!

Well, Pat, first time I have seen that one!  Good looking profile, and if it is based on Lew's Shark, it should fly very well, too!

Its spinning a Mejlik (?) 12.5 x 4.0 three blade.
 Launched at 10.2 K, it flies a 5.2 second lap in a deep four stroke. I cant recall what pipe I'm using, but it is set at 17.75 in.
6.25 oz of Powermaster 10/20 fuel.
#6 venturi with spigot.
After pulling out all of my hair while trying to find that perfect engine run, I'm finally there, thanks to Brett and Mr. Oliver.
 I am very happy with this motor and I'm sure to get many years of good runs from it.

John Glenn set many records with an F8. One of my all time favorites.
Build one. I believe you'll enjoy the way it flies and it will always draw attention on the flight line.
