Whittier Narrows flying last weekend

I made the pilgimage across the desert from Phoenix to LA, hoping I'd get to put up a couple flights at another "Shrine to Control Line" - Wittier Narrows Park".

It was a nice surprise that the Park Admission was waved with a valid AMA card, and the flying site is very nice. Got there late on Sat and the only flier was packing up to leave.

Went back on Sunday after checking out the car Swap Meet by Vets Stadium, and met some very nice people. Of course I didn't write down their names- and the old grey matter can't even come up with a guess. I got a flight in on the Twister, helped pit a bit for the guy with the Nobler in the pics, and then the breeze kicked up a bit and I had to hit the road back to Phoenix. 

Hope to get back soon- but I won't make either of the upcoming contests- dang job thing keeps getting in the way.

Bill,  don't complain about your job duties.  At least you are working.  Also you are lucky to have a job so you can see all the sites some of us only get to read about.

I used to fly there in the past, both before and after the paving. After the paving, I flew in the circle that has the fence around it now. More that once, I had an RC plane land in the circle while I was flying.  That fence would stop that!

All in all, a nice place to fly in the morning hours.

Last time I flew at the Narrows it was all grass and gopher holes. As I recall the swamp was to the West, and the RC field on the North side. If my skills improve I'l like to go back and fly a contest there.

Doc - any comments I make about my job are usually with tounge firmly planted in my cheek.  I know how lucky I am to be working- especially in an industry that has seen so much moved off-shore. I even like what I do about 90% of the time, which is better than a lot of jobs.  
I know from other posts that you used to travel some, so you know what a strain being away from home can be on family.  
I usually have a long list of projects to work through each time I get home, and that really cuts into time for hobby stuff when I am here. This time around I get to pull the transmission out of my daughters Explorer and put a clutch and rear seal in, not that much fun when its either 90+ w/ 90% humidity- or raining!

That is part of the reason I try to get out and fly and meet as many people as I can when I am on the road. Everywhere I have gone, and met up with other fliers I have been welcomed and treated like a friend. C/L fliers are the best- and I treasure all the time I have spent with all of you- whether on line or at the field.
