Title: Where to get plans
Post by: Don Kirmess on October 30, 2006, 08:10:12 AM
I have visited several web sites looking at plans, Pampa, AMA, Dixon and the likes. What I'm looking for are plans for planes that not everybody has or are flying,  something differant and out of the ordinary. Is there a listing somewhere for differant websites for C/L planes other than the ones that I have mentioned.  ???

Go to the Flying Models site under Carstens Publications.  Also the AMA site has all of the John Pond Plans.    DOC Holliday

Don, I would suggest a couple of publications, available through PAMPA or AMA:

"Old Time Stunt Construction Drawings"

and

"Classic Era Construction Drawings"

These pubs, compiled by Tom Morris, show a smaller version of the actual plans, plus some extras, for a LOT of airplanes.

I was looking for Lew Mcfarland's P-38 twin. Some of the other ones I was looking for I have found but this one has eluded me so far.

That one's simple. Just take your September '66 American Modeler to Kinko's and have them blow it up. Use the B/C or wheel size for correct ratio. A pair of .25LA's or .20FPs should be pretty good. Lew used 3-line throttled Veco .19s in the original, and power to weight and area were marginal.

Hi Pete,

Peter White is one of the very finest gentlemen I have ever been in contact with!  I am looking forward to a day when I can come "down under" and visit with Herb (Dallas) Hanna and Peter!  y1

Peter really does a great job on plans.

You previously stated that you have been to the AMA plans service listing.

McFarland's P-38, published in American Modeler, September 1966, is listed there.  The listing shows the AMA plan number 30182.  The Pond plan number is 77D4.

I have found that the AMA plans service (based on the old Pond listing and now enhanced) is a good source for many obscure plans.  The response from the service is quick.  The quality of the reproductions is good.

Hi Keith,

I'm curious.. are John Pond's plans and the AAM plans the same for the P-38?

BTW:  I got a kit of the Scientific King Cobra which I plan to copy and build!  Thanks for those plans.  ;D

Where are the plans available for your FW-190 D9 (or is it a TA-152?)  And was your MArtinBaker ever published???

Thanks!

Bill,

When John Pond ran his plans service, he basically had a vast file of various plans from various sources and made copies available to whoever ordered plans from him.  The AMA took over the Pond collection.  The listing for the McFarland P-38 is for the AM article.  So, I guess the answer to your question is that yes, the Pond plans and the AM plans now available from the AMA are the same.

That P-63 is kind of neat.  It flies fairly well.   It is capable of loops with the Cox Babe Bee engine.

My Focke Wulf was published in Model Airplane News, December 1968, as the Ta 152.  The AMA plans service lists these plans.  As already mentioned, Leonard Newmann also lists these plans on his SSW site.

Plans have not been published for my 1/10th scale Martin Baker.  If you are interested in the Martin Baker, let's talk off line.

Thanks Trostle, I didn't even think to look under Lockheed. Next time I'll have to pay more attention to what I'm looking under.
And thank you to everybody else for the wed sites. Looking through these is like a kid in a candy store.  Some very intresting stuff!
