I have been getting good balsa at my local Hobby Lobby. The local hobby shop doesn't want to carry the sizes I need. D>K

Maybe you should consider cancelling your order. I received a fair sized order of "Contest" balsa from Sig and the average weight was 7+lbs.
Obviously for a different kind of contest.

Hey John, what local hobby shop are you talking about? I didn't think we had any decent hobby shops in the Kansas
City area. D>K H^^

Recently I got a lot of pretty good wood from the Hobby Town Tulsa store....I selected and snagged all the contest stuff.
Not much of a 'hobby' shop as we know them but they DO have a large selection....I think it is all Midwest.

Hobby Haven on Metcalf & 103rd in Overland park is about the closest one. There is another in North Kansas City hat is trying but a long drive for me.

National Balsa has balsa is at the Toledo show at great prices, doesn't help you now but keep that in mind if you are there. Also if you get the order big enough you get free shipping
I use National for my projects. They also have laser cut kits available, some are small enough for CL scale

I've only bought from National once, but I was quite pleased, and will do so again.

The best balsa I ever got was from Stunt Hanger Hobby.
+1 on this. Stunt Hanger (Bud Nolsen) is by far the best I have received. My last order (a few years ago) from National included so much warped 1/16th, I found another source. Their response was that 1/16th is hard to get straight and they may even discontinue it.
