Where is everybody ???
« on: September 04, 2010, 09:37:30 AM »
The flying fields are pretty open here in Michigan and Ontario, with winds gusting to 38 MPH (61 kmph) and temps of 13 (55 F).  If you went to Chicago (more inland), the Weatherbug looks a lot more flyable.

The surf's up on Lake Huron. Get a wet suit!

Paul,
I would not say that Chicagoland is more flyable as it is pretty breezy here.  Michael did put up a needle flight and to check out the right wrist.  The airplane is still in one piece as is the boy, but there were same variations in the amount of pull that he experienced.  With some luck things will calm down for tomorrow.

We took the weekend off for some biking, golf, and water sports, all of which are thoroughly suppressed.  You wouldn't dare even carry a model plane in this wind, let alone fly.

On the upside, we've got three bars of internet.

Here in Shawnee KS the flag is as limp as you know what.  Family has other things to do so I can't go flying.  Anyway maybe this afternoon/evening I may get t the school ground.   H^^

I read in Dave Thornburg's book how they had the NATs at Wichita, which was purported to be "out of the wind belt".

When I lived in Salina, doorstops were a booming business!

Yeah Brett; I live 20 miles from Salina, and it is so windy here that it has been starting up all the airplanes at the airport. LL~ LL~ Back when I was flying R/C pattern, we had a log chain for a wind sock. We said it was OK to fly when it was sticking straight out, but when it started snaping links off we should quit.  y1

Well don't forget I am not that far from the Missouri state line.  I do remember a few Wichita contests in which we wished for some wind.   H^^

Too windy to fly yesterday (Sat) so Ginny and I went Trout scaring about 5 miles fom the house.  Larege trees surrounding the stream served as a good windbreak.  Scared a bunch of Rainbows, shared some sectacular laughter. Perhaps today we can go about 400 yards from the house and try out my newly re-powered twin profile and a rebuilt twin as well.  I realy love being retired!

OK Randy; I guess I better fess up. I think the log chain wind sock did originate in Texas. But, we need it here now. Just checked the weather channel, and we are having one of our milder days. Wind at 20, gusts to 30. It's supposed to be windy tomorrow though.
