Title: Where I've been :) UPDATE! 6-28-06
Post by: Bill Little on June 25, 2006, 08:44:58 AM
Hi All,

I haven't been here too much the last week or so.  Nothing terrible, but I had an accident on my deck which has sidelined me for a while.  Feet slipped in opposite directions, and my knees got the worst of it.  I have an anarobe (unidentified so far) infection in my left knee (diabetes ain't helping there) and torn ligaments in my right one.  Seems the MCL is pretty well wiped out and a tear to the ACL.

Nothing that won't probably heal with time (and probably surgery), but I can't fly!  And the NATS will be a dream only this year. :(

Hey, Larry! Get well soon Buddy!

UpDate: Infection is about done, and I see the surgeon @ 2:30 Wednesday the 28th.

6-28-06 At the surgeon visit I got good and bad news!

Good news:  Infection is pertty well cleared up, but I will be on antibiotics for another week, and no surgery right now!  #^

Bad News:  The torn ligament will get a $1200-$1500 brace customfit until the need for a knee replacement becomes necessary.  Fixing the ligament with my knee joint in such bad shape is a waste of time right now.  So as long as I can take it, the knee replace. surgery will wait!  Got to wait a while on the brace.  :'(

Bill,
Get well soon!
I'll bet Aaron can build a special bench for you to slide under, leg elevated, so you can go on a building marathon as you heal!

My gosh, Bill, what a deal!

I needn't remind you to stay on top of that infection and get it under
control ASAP - infections of ANY kind can be serious threats to diabetics.

My advice about medical problems: go limp, let them do whatever they
need to help you. ;-> (Oh, and abandon any particle of modesty when you
go to the hospital!)

God bless you, Bill. take good care of yourself.

Best,

L.

Bill,

Sorry to hear about your accident.  Ain't that the way it goes...school is out you have some time off and can't take full advantage of it.

I hope all goes well...Thomas

Thanks, Larry!  I would definitely not put myself in the category of problems you are undergoing.  I do realize the infection/diabetes problem now more than ever!  I guess I ain't a young "Superman" anymore.  ;D

The infection hit quick and hard!  Really got my attention, thought I had chipped the bone on the knee the pain was like gettting stuck with an ice pick if it was even slightly touched!

A word to all diabetics:  Don't mess with infections! (this is a point I am sure you are aware of, Larry)

As to you, I am glad to see that the healing process seems to be well underway if slow.  My prayers and well wishes have been with you since I first heard of your problems.  Take real good care of yourself!

P.S.  Thanks Thomas!  We need to get together again soon!  (I was typing while you replied)

Bill,
Sorry to hear you got banged up.
I hope you don't have to sit out all summer.
Hope you get back in the circle soon.

Damn you Old Fart! Sorry to hear of your pain! Drat and Double Drat! But just remember that I now have been through the knee replacement thing and I am one most Happy Fella!!! I haven't gotten up the nerve to return to the ice as yet but I am seriously thinking of doing it this winter! I think that the Doctors want to hold off replacing complete joints until they think that the joint will out last your life expectancy. BS let them do it now and if you out live the joint... get go ahead and get another one! They may just slip in a new wafer of plastic "bearing" for you! I have what is referred to as a "Young Knee" which is to say that I can pivot my knee right as well as left! I have been able to dribble a soccer ball and jump etc.! Go for it! and always remember there's a Winkie for you at the end of the rainbow! Phil Spillman
