Where did all the Johnson Pics go?
« on: April 26, 2012, 07:14:10 PM »
There was a post with a lot of good Johnson pics. Now I can't find it. What happened to it? Looks like I should grabbed a few pics while I could.

I think there was bickering going on so the threads were locked and deleted.

I don't know what happened to my pics? The "bickering" for the most part was pretty much one-sided.  However I don't much care for being called a idiot and a liar either. I was gone most all of the week as usual and when I got back they were gone. It makes me feel bad that they just couldn't be "enjoyed". That's why I put them on here. They were pics of my Johnson engine collection that I wanted to share and that is all. I do know that I will not be replacing them. I have also requested that the other pics of the Johnson "Sport Special" be removed.

It wasn't that you could and others couldn't, its that you did and others didn't.

Bill - I for one really enjoyed seeing your pictures.
They reminded me of my model aviation days in the 50s/60s.
I flew lots of combat in the early 60s and the Johnson CS was my engine of choice, along with the Fox CS.
I still have both of them along with my Johnson Stunt 35. I was recently able to find a new piston and sleeve for the Johnson CS.

In my opinion, the comments made to you were both unfair and unjustified, not to mention just plain rude.

I hope to see more of your stuff!!! Like some ENYAs.

ps - I think that someone out there could use a spell checker!

Bill, Sorry pictures were deleted and maybe they could be reposted. I  still have several good Johnson's and enjoyed seeing your post. My favorite engine was C/S. Sad that some self proclaimed expert  made nice post ugly. Anybody and mean anybody can assemble a Johnson engine.  Plus maybe somebody should learn to spell before flaming somebody on inter-net.  Thanks for a fine thread..
Cheers,Dan

Bill,

I also enjoyed that Thread.

I was just about to dig up my Johnson engines, I only have two left, and post the photos.

Not only were your photos enjoyable, but I learned plenty from the comments.

Enough to know, I'm keeping my engines, and were about to sell them for something newer.

Thanks for that!

Along with the Johnson engine photos was a picture of an Orwick 29.  I then posted a question about that (and other Orwick 29 engines).,  That is gone but I still have the question.  I hope the entire thread is restored.

Floyd I answered. we did not build any orwicks I Had a few Henry gave me. as for my typos. I can't see very well anymore. I can't type since I cane out of the hospital. So its one finger typing and lots of mistakes.I didn't realize this was a grammar school spelling bee. I still haven't seen the rods with different centerlines. I didn't think y'all know how to measure them. In more than 50 years I'm sure many have been made from scratch. To my knowledge there were only 2 different configurations the old greencase sand cast rods and the new extruded rods hole centers all the same. Jim

I for onw don't give jack about how rods are made as long a correct one and it works. When I started to fly UC a Johnson in the nose was a good start. I don't care what came before or after as thats fine. At that time Johnson's were hot ticket for me. I also used the Holland Hornet at that time also.  Had a few good Cox engines [Space Hopper/RR1/TD .020/.049] and all good. So seeing a thread on Johnson's was interesting. To bad a sour unit had to mess it up.

Jim, I SERIOUSLY doubt that there are a bunch of "homemade" Johnson rods out there. A few, maybe. But certainly not enough of them for you claim you don't recognize one because it's not a factory part. How many people do you know that can actually make one from scratch? Out of that number, how many have actually done it? Certainly not enough to claim that a picture of a rod taken from a random Johnson is a custom job.
It just seems way more likely that you don't really remember things as clearly as you think. And that's ok. You said it yourself, it's been 50 years.

I was for sure enjoying the thread and was amazed by the pictures, I hate that it got deleted over a small amount of bickering, which in my opinion is a way to learn the facts of a thing. Kinda like global warming....you would never guess all the factors for and against the proposition if it weren't for the many different opinions and facts brought forth from the argument. P/S Loved those pics! H^^

Garf, I thought you had an extensive library of engine pics.   In fact i thought that I had looked at them and down loaded to a file.    H^^

That "Alexander" looks like a home-brew engine using a Dennymite cylinder (note the sideport intake, which is probably plugged.)

Floyd

the ignition points are definitely Dennymite.
