If you cant find one painted the way you want, get one unpainted and send him off to me, I will paint him up for you

One time good offer  H^^

heres where I get my pilots from, they are light and very realistic, I do paint all my own, you can see the one I did for John Miller in his thread if you want ,,

http://shop.ebay.com/pete1141/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=25
I use 1/10 scale pilots on my stuff, for example my bf 109 is a 1/10 scale pilot

Hi Mark,

Thank you very much for your kind offer.  :)

Please see my private email to you for more details.

Your correct, 1/10 or 1/9 scale is about right for the classic size (P-40, Nobler, etc.) planes. My new plane has 60" WS and about 700 sq. in area. For a large WWII fighter this comes out to exactly 1/8 scale.

For those interested in learning how to paint pilots and where to get perfect pilots to paint, here is a very good site:

       http://www.acesofiron.com/8th_scale.htm

Go to their excellent "painting tips" section. .... I am "ART" challenged so I know it is way over my pay grade to even start such a project. I am very grateful that we have artists like Mark and Phil G. to make our world more colorful and add beauty to our planes and our cars.  y1

Thanks again Mark,  H^^

Rudy,

Thanks for the great link on painting.

I have never liked the characture type pilots like "Joe" above. I like them to look real.

What are the pilots shown, made of. Are the molded plastic or a silicone type material?

Petes pilots, ( on ebay) uses soemthing like :"expanded latex" I think he calls it, he posts the weights with each pilot as I recall.
I have been very happy with them, though you do need to REALLY clean them before painting. The mold release some times is dastardly difficult to get off, and latex paints do not like it at all.

Rudy,
watching for an email,, nothing yet?

Bob Hunt did a terrific video on painting pilot figures...
I wager you could still get one from him?
Have fun...

Hi Tom,

I love this site. Mike has a great product at a very fair price. His TIPS section is outstanding. I wish I had the talent to paint one, thankfully Mark does. :-)

They are made of strong but very light resin. The 1/8 scale is less than 1 oz. Below is a link to another part of Mike's site that gives some more details. I also like his table that helps us tell which size pilot is right for our size model. It turns out that Mike works down the beach from where I live, within walking distance. I never met him, but if I ever get to his shop I will post photos on this forum. I really admire artists. Our world, and especially our country needs more of them.

In IMAC (scale aerobatics) we have a strong point penalty if we do not have a pilot and an instrument panel in our cockpits (every plane has them). ...... IMHO: Full scale airplanes have pilots while in flight, if they don't they are called "target drones" NOT planes!  y1  I even put pilots in my small park flyers, not just my large planes. Like you, I don't care for the caricature pilots, I like scale. .... But they do show a sense of humor and that is always welcome.  :)
