When you say your prayers, be sure to remember the people affected by the earthquake and tsunami. This is truly a tragic event. I hope our model aviation friends in Japan are all OK.

I lived in Taiwan for 30 months and experienced several minor quakes. The minor quakes scared me to death. I can only imagine what it must have been like to be in this quake.

I often speak to Kaz minato - he is a good friend. I sent him an email letting him know the stunt community are wishing all of Japan well.

It is devistating.

I also have a personal friend of mine living in tokyo - He is ok which is good - unfortuneantly thousands are not.

watched some news vids this AM.

Nuclear power plant troubles. Cruise ship missing. Entire passenger train missing. both with passengers.

That's just what I found early to day.

My wife, from Japan, went there to visit on Wednesday. She is in Sapporo on the northen island of Hokkaido. I haven't heard from her since yesterday afternoon before the earthquake.

Yes we will keep them all in our prayers. This is truly a terrible thing to happen. I for one am shocked watching it all unfold on TV, Very very sad.

I just received this email from a friend who is living in Japan :
news from the front line ...

Yo PJ - Yeah I'm ok man, I just can't believe it eh! This is the 2nd big earthquake I've been through over here. It was gnarly! I was in the classroom playing on my phone then the bldg started shaking, didn't think much of it, then it escalated and next thing the jap teachers were running down the hallway. They were screaming "Adrian get outta the bldg" bolted down the stairs and on to the street, there were ppl everywhere! You could see the bldgs swaying, telephone poles, trees shaking! Women were crying all around me. I seriously thought it was going to be "the one" to end japan as we know it, cos that day is coming I know.
Just got a msg from my boss, "stay home today everyone"
Anyway left work yesterday just after it happened around 3 pm and got home at 8pm trains were down, waiting around for buses, then walked about 5 clicks and jumped a cab with another 3 dudes I'd never met before.
Emi my missus was working on the 7th floor when it struck, she's a dental hygienist and her boss said to wait the quake out and protect stuff in the office so everyone did! How @&*(! is that!!!!!!!!
I woulda told him that he can go down with the ship and I'm swimmin!!

This seems good if flight are being diverted to Sapporo.

[11:31 a.m. ET, 1:31 a.m. Tokyo] Delta canceled 29 flights into and out of Tokyo on Friday. American Airlines canceled six flights en route to Tokyo on Friday, with some of the planes diverted to Anchorage, Alaska, and others to the Sapporo and Osaka airports in Japan. American Airlines, Delta and United have issued travel waivers for passengers flying to, from or through Japan in the next several days. The waivers will allow travelers to change their plans without a fee.

E-mail rec'd this morning from Masaru Hiki, who is entered in VSC-23. He spent the night in his Tokyo office since he was unable to return home. Airport status still "iffy" but he was hoping to still arrive in Tucson on Tuesday.

We talked yesterday on Skype. I doubt that there is any internet connections right now, much less phones. She is staying with her mother and brother in Sapporo. I'm hopeful that everything is ok.
It's funny, I was stationed at NAS Atugi (near Yokohama) for two years and I don't remember any earthquakes. I guess I just wasn't paying attention.

Sapporo is also on the opposite side of Hokkaido, so I don't see how the wave could have reached it.

I talked to my wife tonight and everything is fine. Her family laughed at her for being scared. "It's just another earthquake. We get them all the time." Of course they didn't realize how bad it was.

It was the biggest earthquake in my life.

It shook very widely and was scared.
