Interesting.
OS coming out with a .25LAII. Allegedly

Hi James,
That's very interesting and way cool to see. From the photo it appears that the molded back plate is history and they moved the needle valve back onto the R/C carb, which is a good thing. This also makes the engine a snap to convert to C/L.

They are releasing the new 25LA in December in Asia
Asian prices are often higher than when they get here.
Price in Asia is $150 each, likely closer to $125 in USA when they arrive next year.
Unlikely to be a C/L version

Unlikely for sure but i guess its a wait n see type thing. I run a rc converted .25la on my ringer and its just wonderful so does t bother me if they dont release a CL version.
Just curious if the .46 is in the mix.

sweet! I like to scrounge fleabay as much as the next guy, but it'd be nice to just open a catalog and go "gimmee"!

I think that at $125.00 it is now an overpriced engine. it didn't say that anything internally was different just a carb and backplate. They did not have to make a new mold for the backplate and the carb is essentially a well proven item with the addition of a raked needle valve
It reminds me of merchandising and pricing an item higher to recoup profit from a dying product line

Whoooo Hooooo!
I've bought an OS Max S .35 on Fleabay that turned out to be a good running engine, but I'm a lot less enamored with Fleabay after learning that professional shoppers have a program/app/whatever that inserts a bid in the last millisecond.
I wonder if we'll be able to pre-order the new .25 LAII with Tower Hobbies. Since, Tower Hobbies still carries the OS .15LA for $90.00 perhaps the new .25 LA II wont' be a whole lot more.
If the new .25 LA II ends up being $125.00, that's only $5.00 more than the Brodak .25 (assuming they are ever in stock again). Yeah, there's still the expense of adding a venturi and NVA, but I'm with T.J. I'ld much rather buy a new .25 LA and convert it, than take my chance on Fleabay.

Now that's what I was talking about Jamie! Sweet! Glad to see a fine engine come back. y1

Good to see that they're going to bring back the .25LA, plus the metal backplate. Let us hope they do the same with the .46LA. #^ Steve

Just buy all the parts from RC Japan and assemble one yourself. It was about $65 per engine last time I checked.

I just checked with Tower Hobbies (October 19, 2018) and to buy the parts to put an OS .25 LA together (with muffler, but not counting the venturi and NVA) the parts totaled $206.00. I didn't bother to check if all the parts were still available or on back order or discontinued.
I doubt OS Japan sells the parts at a 70% + discount of what Tower sells them for.

They do. Mike built a .46LA from ground up not long ago i think less than $100. "I think"

So I just loaded my cart with everything to assemble 1 OS LA .25 from parts carried by RC Japan. The total at checkout is 7500 yen. That's $66.75. So yes, it is 1/3 the cost of Tower.

Well kind of James. I have 2 Brian Gardner piston/liner sets w/heads. I bought everything else to assemble 2 OS LA .46's from RC Japan for a grand total of 10,044 yen. $89.36 USD that included shipping. So $45 an engine minus the P/L and head. I still think you'd be under $100 to buy everything you need to assemble one. They are THE cheapest place to buy OS parts even when you factor in shipping.

It's really good to find out how wrong I was. y1 Thanks, Mike. :D
How hard is it to insert the cylinder into the crankcase? How hard is it to get the conrod/piston pin into the piston? Does assembly require special tools? And how easy is it to damage/ruin the motor trying to assemble it from parts?

Very easy to assemble as it is a bushing motor, no bearings. No special tools required piston pin slides right through piston/conrod. you do have to orient the crank to get the conrod on but it is simple. Liner has a notch that lines up on the case so you can't mess that up either. I am no genius engine guy but these are simple to tear apart and put back together. I have replaced internals on about a dozen OS LA 25's and 40's as I use them for combat and all have run fine after me doing them.

Mike,
Thanks so much. Looks like there's a new built-from-parts Max LA .25 in my future for my winter project: a Ted Fancher Medic that I've just gotten started on.

Thanks, guys! I went through the parts list from the owner's manual for the .25 LA on the OS website and found all the parts listed at RC Japan.
But I still have a few questions.
Does the cover Plate need a gasket? I didn't see one listed in the owner's manual or at RC Japan. Also, it wasn't clear if the piston pin comes with the piston/cylinder. I imagine you have to order the piston pin separately. Is that correct? How many head gaskets would you suggest I order?
Thanks,
Joe Ed

Black plastic cover plate (late LA) doesn't need a gasket.
Metal backplate (early LA25 and new LA25-2) need a gasket.
Piston pin doesn't come with p/c. You have to order it separately.
ONE head gasket for LA25 and 25-2.
