Can someone tell me what size hex wrench will fit a 4-40 screw?
-
Should be a 3/32" hex Paul.
-
Yup, Jim is correct - - - 3/32.

He asked about the "Allen" wrench size for the head of a socket screw, I think.

I had thought the reference was to the nut size, so I deleted my posting. The hex size for a 4-40 size set screw is .050.

Man, I got an IQ over 150 and get more and more confused! LOL!!!!!!!! LL~ LL~ LL~
A 4-40 socket head screw takes a 3/32 hex key. So I immediately thought of that since the question posed was for a *4-40 screw*.
Now, a 4-40 *SET screw* looks like it takes an .050 hex key.......
I guess, either way, the question is answered! n~ n~ n~ n~ :##

Minus 20 IQ points for that response, Bill. LL~
-
yup.
Ok, OK, are we talking about a 4-40 (socket head cap) *SCREW*, or a 4-40 *SET* screw???? Both ARE 4-40! LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ n~ n~ n~ :## :X
The 4-40 *screw* takes a 3/32 Allen wrench (also referred to as a hex key/wrench).
Looks like the 4-40 set screw takes a .050 Allen wrench (also referred to as a hex key/wrench).

Yeah, just to help out here, a 4-40 button head cap screw takes a completely different size ~> HB~> HB~> Not sure what it actually is I have some at home,,
-
Well, I have tried to screw up this thread (no pun intended) right from the start. On the outside chance that I missed a way to screw it up, I am going to have one more go at it.

Hmmm I guess you and I together would be in the 200 range.

It's the third one from the smallest on the set H^^

I guess I am weird, but, when I can't find a wrench thats fits I head for my local ACE Hardware Store. I have learned that if they don't have peice of hardware I need, it isn't to be found.
