WHAT PLANE IS THIS?

     Do you recognize this kit?  This is a Black Hawk Models Challenger originally produces by Scientific Models in the late 1950's. Designed by Walt Musciano it is a .19 size stunt model with plastic wheel pants, wing tips, engine cowling and canopy.  Built by George Ellison. George has squeezed a .25 in it and now is wondering if he might have overpowered it.

I have a kit, and this is great to see.  Looks like almost exactly how I would paint her up!  I will possibly use a 1957 Fox .25 in mine since it is basically just a bored out version of the old Fox .19.

Hey Larry the Challenger looks real sharp I just saw the pic on your web site . Looks a lot better than the old Black and White pic , it makes me want one even more. T.J.

Just a 25??  When I built mine in Junior High, I stuck a Fox 35X in it.  Yee-haaa!!!!

      Another one of my early customers got a Fox 35 into his, He had talked to me several times about different models.  It must have either spun him into space or just screwed him into the ground because I never did hear from him again.

George said that while he was busy judging another contest he had a friend fly it.  George had put an over size engine in and realized that this was not his best idea.  While The plane flew a complete stunt pattern (flapless) the pilot complained that the plane was too fast.  In the 1960's a fast pattern was the norm so a .15 to a .19 would have been a better choice for stunting.
