Title: What is this plane?

Have had this since childhood hanging on wall. given to me by a friend of my dad's. Can anyone tell me what it is? Odd ball design for sure and not like anything myself or anyone I've talked to has seen before.

Trailing edge looks similar Barnstormer-ish. Could be a modifide Brarnstormer or Squaw

looks like a plywood tail skid like a barnstormer also.

It's a modified Barnstormer.  The motor mounts threw me at first.

Definitely a Barnstormer. The polywog-ish airfoil, fixed flap construction, and spars aft of the C-tube are dead giveaways.  y1 Steve

Thanks Guys!!!!  I remember now when I was a kid the man who gave it to me said it was a barnstormer.  you jogged my memory. Really neat old guy who had planes hanging all over his house and whenever we'd go there I'd come home with a new present :) 

Can't wait to build one...by the way I think the engine was inverted on this one and the upper fuse / cowl is just broken off.

Yup, zero doubt the engine was mounted inverted. Not sure how legal it would be for OTS contests, but with your original for documentation, perhaps it would be allowed. OTS rules are pretty specific and exclusive by nature. I think that would be an awesome looking Barnstormer, and encourage you to replicate it with the inverted engine.

My Dad flew his Barnstormer with an O&R .29, and tore the wings off it twice (in the air!), so be sure to sheet the wing center full width and do NOT leave the access hole for bellcrank inspection. I'd also put in a  4" bellcrank and reduce or eliminate all the rudder offset.  y1 Steve
