What is meant by "Degummed Castor Oil?
« on: September 19, 2017, 06:04:53 AM »
Back in the early 70's, while living in the old country, I began mixing my own fuel.  At that time I was using Bakers AA medicinal grade castor oil.  I was told that medicinal grade was manufactured form beans that had no poisons use in their cultivation thus making it fit for human consumption.  I cost a whopping $3.00 per gallon!

The word "degummed" is a mystery to me.  I could not obtain specific information as to what it meant other than it was a sales gimmick. Sounds like the present "sugar free" claim! Lol

Any accurate as to what degummed may mean?

                                                                                                                   Have a great day,

                                                                                                                   Frank McCune

Medical castor oil is processed to remove allergen compounds and such.

Degummed castor oil is further processed to remove the, more sticky and less heat tolerant, undesirable compounds for industrial use.

There are several articles that show up with a google search for degumming castor oil.  They are pretty heavy on chemistry language though.
