Title: What is a good 40 size trainer?
Post by: Ken Deboy on June 02, 2006, 08:57:19 PM
I'm wondering what would be a good (non-ARF) 40 sized trainer. To qualify "good trainer," I mean: can likely be built into a decent flying plane by a first time builder with little or no assistance, flies smooth and slow enough for undeveloped reflexes but can do basic manuevers (loops, lazy eights, inverted flights), inexpensive (hard to quantify), strong enough to avoid damage on minor crashes/hard landings, easily repairable, and readily available.

In 20 size, Flight Streaks, Skyrays, and Brodak's Shark 402 look like they would be meet my definition, but when I look at 40 size offerings, it's hard to find one that does. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Ken

Someone can give you a connection to get a Ukey 40.  The Sig Twister is a very good airplane and simple to build.  Corehouse has a Gotcha Streak which might suit you.

After three years of flying and the second set of wing cores I finally threw my Ukey 35 in the garbage can after a buddy crashed it last Friday.  It had been rebuilt so many times.

This is the beauty of the Ukey, the ability to take a hit and not be damaged and to be easily repaired on the more serious boo-boos.  And crash you will the first year or two.   You will need to keep the wing cradles to reform the wings when you use rattle-can foam from the hardware store.

Good luck with flying..........

So where does one get a Ukey?  Why is this a secret?

I just received a Ukey 40 from Jim Pearson.  I will be posting some pics today in the product Review section.  I can tell you here that it's a nice kit and an extremely easy build.

Thomas

I have the build posted in 3 parts in Product Review.  I hope it helps.
