Anyone know if this balsa will work for a profile fuse plane. Not sure what grade balse this is.

My goal this summer is to break a few of my profiles learning the pattern and I want to have a small supply on hand for repairs. LL~ HB~> n~ <= y1

Since they do not specify what grade or grain you are going to get I can only guess it is not contest grade wood. I.E "R/C grade"! Suggest you go directly to Texas for some real balsa, (Do not pass GO). You can tell them exactly what you want and you'll likely get it. You can buy STIFF, LIGHT balsa for profiles. BTW, I like 4" X 42" for my profiles. No patching, and room to design something cool! Don't be too upset if you get a slightly warped piece, Just build the rudder offset into the warp!

Ward..I had to do the same rudder thing on my Ringmaster..could never get that warp out..wonder if steam and weights would help ???
-
Don't worry about it! Just sand the inside curve of the wood back in the tail section, and voila! It's straight...

Yep, I've done the sanding thing with warped bawsa fuse wood. We get into this issue at length on SSW.

I think for the price I don't have much to lose.

paul,
If you plan on crashing, you will......just plan on FLYING the pattern.....and you will

Thanks Wynn,
That is what I hope to do, but in order to make an omelet you have to crack a few eggs.

If you knowsomeone that flies the pattern that you know is very capable and does a good pattern stick to them like glue. They will be a big help and of you learn each manuver one at a time and practie each one a lot before you move on you will be suprised how fast you learn. I wish you luck and know you will do just fine. After you learn each manuver you can put them togather as a sequnced pattern. Just takes patience and fortitude. Leo

Do the maneuvers HIGH until you get the SHAPE and more or less size down pat. THEN start working on getting them down to the 5 ' level
Don't try to start off doing the entire pattern start doing the easy ones and gradually work up to the harder ones .
Watch out on the hourglass especially if there is a breeze

Hi Paul,
Since you can fly the Beginner PAttern, it is no simply a progression to the complete pattern. 5' bottoms will come later, just get through all the manuevers, put them together and practice.
Sizes and shapes are the most important part for now.
BTW: I have witnessed 7'-8' bottoms (all were the same, though) on "Top 5" day at the NATS! Really.................
