That remark is about as trite as asking a C/L pilot to make a high speed pass down the runway.

No Jim by comparison it isn't.  I just simply cannot afford to fly anything more expensive than I fly now.  When I see something like thus jet in a model, it just amazes me on a lot of levels .

I think it's nice and all... but the line between FUN and WORRY is very thin in cases like this. I prefer the fun factor...

Very, very impressive.  A brilliantly built Model.  However, I can't imagine flying it...I already have enough Gray Hair!  The pilot has a lot of GUTS!

These monsters are frequently sponsored ($$$$$) by the airline they are painted as. There is another video of the first model A380 flown (Emirates), also in Germany, that shows the extensive use of onboard computers to monitor engine thrust, hydraulics, attitude, location, speed etc. It was even inspected pre-flight by a federal inspector.
Not a poor mans sport. Each to their own.

I believe the local guy with the most RC jets is a dentist...and he's been sticking to single engine types.

Even the best occasionally "lose" one, like Ali Machinchy here:
I built a Blue Pants as a kid. Wish I still had it. Might even learn to fly it.

I have to admit that these are much more realistic than what we fly.....particularly the fireball when you splat one!   ;D

The beauty of building and flying models is that we can choose from the very simple to incredibly complex subjects and technlogy.  They ALL require skill, craftmanship, and attention to detail to achieve success.  They all can be extraordinarily rewarding in that we create and fly something we built ourselves.
Many elements of that joy are absent in pre-fab models.

I've seen people get great satisfaction out of designing, building and setting up models that must be considered expendable. RC scale combat (WW1 and WW2) has a good following in Europe. The aircraft must be near scale but smart competitors bring some spares because midairs and other damage do happen.
