What airplane for an aero tiger 36
« on: October 11, 2010, 07:03:41 PM »
I was fortunate enough to win an Aero Tiger 36 engine at the FCM contest this summer and Im trying to decide what to build for the engine.  Im not sure how large of a model the engine will power. Should I stick with a 35-40 stunter or can I go larger.  What modern or classic airplane would be a good choice.

Thanks
Rick Henry

I've seen several Carprice builds that fly very well with this engine.

Modern Plane  Vector40 ,Tempest40 ,SV-40 DREADNOUGHT 40,
Classic ship...most anything that is Nobler Chipmink sized, although It will pull larger ships
The Lark would be a good one as would the 62 Ares , You know already about the Caprice

Thanks Randy and James.  What do you think about the Brodak Spitfire or is it to big?

I believe that the AT .36 is the best stunt engine ever, if you follow Randy's prop/fuel suggestions.
Have fun with it!

Did you want a profile or full fuse plane ?
By the end of this week I will be posting some pictures of my new Ringmaster Deluxe (profile),  which will have an AT-36 on a pipe.
Wingspan 55" and area around 615".

Another great plane is the Chizler. We have a few that fly extremely well on the Aerotiger, and i have one under construction that will have the Aerotiger in it.

Joe Adamusko is building an Olympic that he is powering with an Aerotiger .36, another option

The Aero Tiger 36 would be great in a UHP Gieseke Nobler. I use a retimed
Thunder Tiger 36 with an AeroProducts NVA in mine and it is great. I even told Billy W
at the Nats after he watched one of my practice flights: "No wonder Bob G
flew this plane forever; it's awesome!".

Later, Steve

Thanks for all the input guys.  I did consider the GN from Ultra Hobby but I am on a fairly tight budget. I wanted to build a kit so I went with the Brodak Spitfire.  It looks like a really great airplane with what appears to be a modern airfoil and several laser cut parts. I really have a thing for war birds anyway so the project should be fun.

Rick,
To answer your question directly, no the Spitfire is not too big.  One very competitive Expert who flew my AT36 on a Brodak P-40 said is has enough power to fly his 60-size plane, and told me whatever I do, never let the engine out of my hands.

The wing on the Spitfire is low.  Depending on how well you want it to fly, and if you are a bit adventurous as a builder, adding some dihedral is likely to improve the vertical CG location and the already good looks of the plane.
