What a day it was

Actually it was just an evening as I got tired of working on the Ringmaster Imperial.   Guess I was getting cabin fever.   The cell phone and computer kept showing low 40's F degrees.   The wife got home from the chocolate Easter Egg making gig at Church and asked me why I wasn't flying.  Could hardly feel any breeze.   So I says to myself,  "Self you've flown in much colder temps than this".   So the King Sweep and ISW are put in the old Ford along with the pit box plus prop box.   Get the stuff to the circle and ready to burp the Brodak .40.  No fuel syringe in the box.   It was used to pressure test tank for the RI.  No sweat as I remember there should be a spare in the back of the old Ford.  Yes, it was there.   Had to use the electric finger to get the B-40 talking to me.   Put up a flight on the King Sweep and what a joy to see flying straight.   It had better since I had it in a leg lock with arm bar plus hot air gun taking out the warp.   Changed prop from my Zinger 11-5 to an APC 11-4.   Had to remove the spinner, but I had one of these heavy weight washer that behind the prop washer and nut.   What a difference it made in the handling of the plane.  Needs a little more I believe in the nose.   But, I am happy I didn't scrap the plane.  Don't know what it looks like from outside the circle, but with that long fuse and swept back rudder it looked great to me.  On way home was thinking of swapping for my other LA .46,  but I should give the B-40 another chance.   It hadn't been run since that year in Tuscon.  So watch out in Classic once I get it working to my satisfaction.

Early yesterday would have been a great day to fly, but I had nobody to go flying with.  There are a few within driving distance, but I have fallen out of favor with those guys and they want nothing to do with me after a stupid episode 7 years ago.  Even public apologies have failed to bring those friends back.   With that said I did manage to run two of my NW .40 Profile Carrier planes to see which might be the better to take with me to Portland, OR in April.  It sure was great to have both planes running well within their projected performance.  One of the planes is a twin of the Profile plane I flew at Brodak's in 2011 and is very stable and runs very strongly with an FP .40, the other plane is one of a second run of Wildcats I offered two years ago.  With a FP .35 it appears, on the bench at least, to be competitive. Time will tell.
The weather is rapidly getting better, and I expect our usual great flying season is just a day or two away.  Sure hope so!

The NW .40 Profile Carrier event is limited to just 2 engines, the FP .40 and the FP.35 and a Tower clone of the .40. Muffler pressure allowed, and  only10% contest provided fuel is used.  Mike Potter's super idea of a FUN Carrier event is a great event!

Glad you made it out to fly Doc. Four of us made it out to the circle here in Albuquerque also. I flew the RM three times and we had three heats of racing with my old fox racer. I'm finally getting the bugs out of it and getting use to having another person in the circle with me. He still kicked my but though. I need to go a little leaner. LOL!!

By the way you will notice the outlandish finish I go for.      Also the spinner is in the pit box as I need to add weight to the nose of this machine.   Weight is around 46 ounces.

  Thanks for posting the pics, I have looked at the construction article since I have the FM issue and always found it interesting.I saved them in my control line files.Good luck with it.

I only wish that I could have had the construction article when I built this thing.  I used the construction details of Walter Umland's  Sweet Sweep.   The Sweet Sweep flew right off the board.  Only draw back is only enough fuel for one lap between maneuvers.  I have plenty of fuel on board for the King Sweep.    Brodak 40 for power.

Was a great day as I finally got a full pattern on the bird.    Also put up a flight on the rebuilt S-1 Ringmaster.    David also got a new gentleman in the air with the trainer of his that went home with the gentleman.   Mark Fay soloed on second flight from a hand launch.   Hope we see more of him this summer.

David, I would have posted sooner, but I had to take my nap.   Old age will get you too one of these years.  It was great watching you and him work together.
