What's wrong with this picture?

What's not right with this photo?

 Drone racing!

Prize money at the "FIRST" Austrailian drone racing event of $15,000.00.

What? Only five years of drones? Give or take.

70 years of CL flying, plus or minus, where's the prize money?

Show me the drones and "Show me the money."

Just starting to take off, no pun intended.

The Austrailian drone race was a first time event and made the National news.

Did the Nats make the National news? I didn't see anything?

I told you drone interest would get big.

I'd be very surprised to find that an individual put up the prize money for the drone race.
More likely manufacturers/importers?
That might be something for our hobby industry to consider.

I think the Bladder Grabber meets were the only money contest of value.   People were worried about control line becoming a professional event.   I was told several times depending on the event like stunt, racing and combat you do become a professional but the money comes out of your pocket.

I see no reason why there shouldn't be CL competition for prize money.

It is a competitive sport, these guys are the best, and they are deserving of prize money as an award.

Possibly something that should be considered? IMHO

there was an FPV quad race in california a few days back,, 120 entries from all over the world,, 25,000 first prize and a flashy belt buckle,,

manufactures and entry fees covered the prize,,

its a fad,, like the Rubiks cube,, Yo yo s,,, and a myriad of others,,
quads are pretty boring except for this racing thing,,

doesnt bother me,, everybody deserves a hobby,, the money makes it a job,, not interested,,

For years the rat race had me going around in circles, Now I do it for fun!

When I flew FAI Free Flight, our club (THE Strat-O-Bats) had a contest for F1 A, B & C, with the entry fees returned to the winners by a formula, depending on how many entered each event. There was a perpetual trophy (you had to give it back every year, after having a plate made to put your own name on it). Awesome contest. I won 1st in F1A one time, and won a fair chunk of money. I don't recall if it was $140 or $240, but one of the two. That was 1995. Other than the initial price of the perpetual trophies, it worked out good for the club, because there was no real way to lose a pile of $ on trophies.  :) Steve
