Ok here is the thread where you show what you will be flying this spring. (It's building season for us yanks)
My new Profile plane.
Here is my ARC Force.
Got the stab glued on today

I'm almost ready to start painting a scratchbuilt prototype .40 size version of Keith Sandberg's original "Challenger" design.
I'm calling this one "Challenger 575", 50" wingspan, 575 square inches...

New Electric. It's actually a little further along than this photo but it's still on the bench.
650 sq in Bear wing, extended fuselage, Electra flyte 25, Castle Phoenix 45 ESC, Hyperion 4s 4000ma Lipos, FM-9 Timer.

The absence of -- in some places -- about five years accumulation of junk. It's been overdue for a cleaning.
And a Banshee that Randy Powell gave me, that is getting flaps installed for the first time and then the wings re-covered.
And hanging over the workbench is a Fancherized Twister-in-progress: I need to start the finish.
-
One more time. Fifth time is the charm. The olive drab plane sitting on the table is waiting for nose art graphics. The engine was run for the first time yesterday. The Yak-9 is ready for OTS and the Guru is ready for PA. The first two are Brodak kits and the Guru is scratch built using a Cardinal wing kit from Brodak.
-
The Honey Bee is last years back-up plane that I used at Wrentham, MA. It was too ugly so I re built it and prettied it up a bit. It was orange wing and tail with a blue fuselage. Blue Lustre Kote tha was rapidly turning black from the sun. LA .46.
-
Adams' Special is finally done.
-
The Madman will receive a new engine (T.T. 36 by Byron Barker) and a red paint job.
-
After that on to my next Barnstormer.
Allen
-
Well I finally started to put color to the P-47. I'm not going to mention the ones that interrupted the P-47.

Thanks Mike!
My choice of engines are those Blue OS LA .46. ;D
This is a very cool plane and glad you approve. It's all Pollyspan and Silkspan. I hope to come in around 45+-oz.
It will not be a front row plane but I'm going to try and make it shine with Brodak dope.
My first plane with wing gear. HH%%
I will post more as I progress.

Hopefully before the weekend I'll have the bench cleared of tools from hanging cabinets, and on the way to building three balsa ribbed Skyrays, powered by os 25s. I also have a Brodak Submarine Spitfire I put on hold until my finishing skills are a little better.

I've just got run of the mill sport stuff. At the moment.
A "Flite Streak" I started in 2012.
I have the "New American." The first model I totally designed in CAD and had laser cut. Started that in 2012.
"The International." Actually built the wing, modified Ares wing, in the early 60's. I designed in CAD, a fuselage and tail feathers for that wing.
Oh! I almost forget. "The LOSER." This odd ball build and model started out as one model and is now something entirely different. Started this in 2012.
The LOSER will get finished first. Then I'll flip a coin.
Hope to get everything completed within the next half year. I have much better stuff and more interesting stuff on the board.

I was wondering if anyone would pick up on that.
It is a ARC. And here is how. I was looking to build a new profile plane for next year. My good flying buddy Zuriel was building this plane (I think last year... Remember he is a slow builder). For a few reasons he lost interest in completing it and passed it off to me. It is all hand cut and I only had to replace a few broken parts, build a lead out guide, tip weight box and start doping it.
Good catch Steve. LL~
PS - notice the green plane in the video on the monitor Steve?

If careful I can walk into my shop without falling on my face tripping over something. Even make it to the chair by the bench. Comfy. What do you do. I keep throwing things out and improving the order. I think working on one thing at a time might help. At the moment I've three models going. A Tanager (which might turn out to be an Accenter), a Sterling P51 knock off and a Brown B2 stunt war wagon. A lovely plane designed by a friend. The knock off Sterling plane was manufactured (hand cut?) maybe 20 years ago, maybe 30 years ago. The box is brown, speckled, crackles when touched. This kit was made by AJ Free Flight service. Ever hear of them? Buy anything of theirs you find. All the wood in toto, ribs, sheeting, fues, flying surfaces, weighs 5.8 ounces. Lots of C grain. Where it matters. Stab-elevator, flaps, clear lite beautiful wood.

I'm planning on putting together a few small little airplanes in my dorm. I'm also thinking of drawing up plans for something and scratch building it.
-
1) 1938 HLG design by Joe Hervat called...The Hervat. 21" wingspan for OT HLG. Dad's got a newspaper article of me chucking one of these when I was 4.
2) My own design and "secret weapon" for next summer (Dan Berry if youre reading this, imma getcha!!) Took plans for the 1948 Jetco "Thermic 20" and blew them up 200% for a wingspan of 36". Modern airfoil and polyhedral wing construction. Resized the stab and rudder to accomidate the popular and easy to trim "arrow feather" tail. Fuselage is a popup boom-style fuse, which accomidates a Bauer Remote Dethermalizer servo, receiver and battery. Flies and thermals really well in spite of its weight, a rather heft 135g. Subsequent versons will have more span (1m, or 39" limit per AMA rules) less ply and more C-grain balsa in the nose to reduce the weight. With RDT the days of lawn-darts are pretty much over, so I dont need to build tanks with wings anymore.
Tom "Tommy T" Peadon is also working on a very interesting and promising DLG design that I might play with. Looking at the model head on, the right wing has DIHEADRAL and the left a POLYHEADRAL wing. The mean span, or straight line distance from the wingtip to the center, is equal. However the absolute span is not, and the polyhedral side is a bit longer and has more area. The idea is this asymetric lifting power helps prevent spin-ins when in high-lift, high-turbulant flight. I wish I had a picture of one. Looks super funky--first time I saw it fly I thought he had broke something on launch, but it flies great, the math is sound, and Tommy T forgot more about FF than I'll ever know so ill give it a try!
future plans
2x of each of these.
3x Don Deloach's "Elipsix" CAT Gliders
An E-pearl 280 for the new E-36 category (yes electrics are invading FF too!!)
And some Rubber Scale models. I've been bitten by the scale bug recently so im gonna copy a Gillows Super Cup kit a few time for some practice before starting on something more higher-end.

Sadly, nothing to contribute, but really enjoying seeing what others have on the bench! I'm trying to get enthused about a profile Road Runner kit, but my "design yer own" and "scratch build it" leanings holds me back nearly as much as my "need to work more than play" life! Great to see some nice building and design work coming from you guys. Cant say enough about Chris Cox's take apart pics! H^^. I'm there is spirit and lurking a couple times a week fellas! I do however have a nice layout of a semi-scale Laird Turner Meteor in pencil held in reserve for sometime before age 60 LL~ ... a return to serious stunt endeavors! Lets just say it was originally intended to be powered by a Saito 72 if that helps date the last time I seriously put pencil to paper....but I suspect it will b easily converted to "electrickery" as Howard puts it.
Jim Hoffman calls me almost weekly during flying weather (which is now in the SW) and graciously allows me to ring out one of his stable. n~ Helps keep the fire lit when its not possible to keep it fully stoked. ;)
-
I like that Inception. I hope the wing is as cool as the fuselage.
Me, I got Jerkline Special plans today, but I plan to whip out a take-apart stunter acceptable to airlines first.

Beautiful - I have a Twist-Stang ( Twister kit bashed into a b/c model Mustang) in work that I plan the same paint scheme for after visiting NASM -Udvar Hazy annex at Dulles and stared at the real one for an hour.
That plane is in the " workshop, with a few others, but shop is full of stuff from home remodel projects, no building going on there for a bit.
I have a new Tutor ARF /LA.46 with upgraded controls and extra tripler on the nose, the TwistStang, a CG Shoestring, a lazer cut short kit of Leo Mehl's Arctic Fox, and a 5yr old Brodak Oriental ARF that is begging for E-power, new Flying Model article on that got my juices flowing!
plus have a FireBaby and a vintage Jim Walker FireBee to build. Gotta get that room set up again!

Hi Paul,
The LA .46 will work perfectly in the Force. Both of mine were powered by a bunch of different engines but in the end the LA 46 was about the best without spending a lot of money. The prop that I liked the most with this combo was a Bolly 11" X 4" three blade with just a tongue muffler.
Later,
Mikey
-
Thanks Mike
I don't have any Bolly's but I know some one who does. ;D
I'll keep you posted as the paint goes on.
-
This one was on my workbench only recently. It now has a few flights, and trimming is progressing.
61" span: powered by RO-Jett 61
Interesting feature: cowling is made from 1/64" ply "wrap-around".
It is called "Thirtyone" (It is becoming too difficult thinking up new names, so I now number my designs consecutively).

Robert,
Good work, Kudos!
I see foam in those flaps.
Foam in the stab and elevator also. There's foam everywhere!
Removable turtle deck. Is this how most do it?
Interesting.
E is the future?
Would I be bold by asking where the cores came from?
Most of my R/C building experience is with foam wings, stab and elevator cores sheeted. Sometimes the rudder also.

Started flying control line last year. Flew RC pattern for about 20 years. The first contest I entered was the NATs, finished second in beginner with my modified electric banshee that I built. They gave me a legacy 40 just for entering ( how cool is that ). Its on my building table now and should be ready in a few weeks. Alan Brickhaus if you read this why is there an 18" and a 30" trailing edge stock for 50" of trailing edge? Is this new math or am I comfused. Also got a ARF smoothie from Curtis Shipp at a really good guy price ( thanks Curtis ) that I assembled and is ready to fly in classic this year. I also have to say that the control line community has some of the greatest people I've met in my 40 years in the hobby.
Watch out for us pattern guys ( flew with Chip Hyde in the 80s ) we got some mad skills.

To give my answer nd I have built several of the Brodak kits. You splice the trailing edge on the outboard side of the wing, not in the center. In fact all my leading edges, spars and trailing edges have spices in outboard wing panel. But, now I look atyour measurements and see you are short by two inches. Look for another 30 inch peice of wood.
-
Thanks DOC. The plans and instructions show the splice in the center.
Will have to get another piece. My local stores don't have any. Will have to order or make one from square stock I guess.
Steve

Hey "Super Dave" Pratt, how are you doing? Long time, no hear. How are you making out these days? Do you have anything on the board?
Hi Paul,
I'm doing great and thanks for asking! I stepped away from modeling for awhile and concentrated on trap shooting. I needed to up my score into the high 90's in singels, handicap, and doubles and so far, things are going pretty good.
I'm back to my old ways with a bunch of projects on the board again (LOL). For OTS I have a 56 Madman that is ready to assemble and cover. The Madman 56 should be way cool and powered with T&L St 51. Should come in around 46 to 48 ounces ready to go.
Electric: This electric thing has me all pumped up again and has me working on a new design that I need a name for. Thanks for mentioning "Super Dave" in your post. S/D was a pretty good model in its day and too bad it was splattered all over the runway at the Texas Nat's. I just may use that name again.
Also, I designed a new smaller Lill Force for electric that I've started building for electric. It is slightly bigger than the Skyray 35 but with the looks of the Force series of models and yes, it is electric powered. This model is just for fun and testing new electric systems and ideas.
Later Buddy,

It's good to hear from you! I've kept all your helpful hints. I hope you won't mind..., but my P-Force encountered the ground once too often, and I'm using its wing in a different, model that I hope I'll build lighter - we'll see about that. I also got a built-up winged "Magnum" for my LA-.46 (enough engine?) from a clubmate. I like it.
SK
Hi Serge,
WOW stuff like that happens. Really glad you are repairing it, you should have it back to flying condition really soon. The balsa wing Magnum should be really cool with a LA 46 engine if you keep it at 52 to 54 ounces or so. If you are going to wind up over that weight, I would look into a ST 51 from T&L (great motor with tons of power).
Later,
Mikey
-
Thanks, Mike!
I just weighed it, and at 43 1/2 oz, minus engine (9.1 oz), muffler, prop and landing gear, it appears that I'm going to miss that weight by too much. Darn! We'll see what comes around.

Hi Randy,
I'm still hear on earth (at least I think so). #^ Just getting back into building again but, I have been following all the electric stuff which really pulled my trigger that's for sure. Building a few models for next year and we will see where that goes LOL. I have flown a little but not really all the much. How are all of the rest of the guy's down there? I do keep in touch with Jim Hoffman and see what he is up to.
Say Hi to all of them,
Mikey

As Paul noted, I am a slow builder. In the first photo is my Umland Barnstormer that I started last decade. It is now within a couple of years of flying. The second photo is of my E-stunter design. 57" span 635 sq/in wing. It will have a more classic look of a Juno. Should be fun to fly once completed.

Lookin' good Zuriel.

Mikey,
Great to see you back at it.
I have a lot on the plate: "Riley's Swift" stunt wing 90% completed in finishing stage; Classic "Impala" 70%; "Hobo" for a customer 50%; a new design electric for Pampa events in Cad; working on an electric version of the "Hobo"; shipping the first "Hobo" full and short kits.
